KING Alfred and Lindal were in rampant form as they produced whitewashes in the Ulverston and District Bowling League.

In a week when home advantage was telling, the two teams took full advantage of being on their own patch in the Alan Myerscough Ford-sponsored competition with 14-0 win.

King Alfred inflicted defeat on a Roose squad dropping towards the relegation zone.

Steve Atkinson led the way with a ruthless 21-1 victory, while Martin Barrow, 21-6, and Jeff Hinde, 21-7, played fine supporting roles.

Not for the first time, Lindal matched King Alf’s score as their tricky green was too much for the Post Office to conquer.

Daniel Smith cruised to a 21-4 win, with top men Paul Kissock and birthday boy Ian France also having single-figure victories.

Leaders Hawcoat Park were the only team to win on away soil as they visited a Salthouse team who have still yet to hit full stride.

In a tight game, Hawcoat managed to take seven games and the aggregate for a 10-5 victory. Wilf Heywood was the only single-figure winner as he rolled back the years with a 21-9 triumph.

Tony Kneale and Kenny Judge supported with comfortable succeses of their own, helping Park to the vital aggregate points.

For Salthouse, Adam Smith has continued with his improvement from last year and went from strength to strength as he registered a 21-10 victory.

Ulverston Cons A moved into second place after an impressive 10-4 victory on the against a Red River team who have stuck with their juniors-first policy.

For the Cons, Kieth Birkbeck, Peter Earley and Ray Postlethwaite all used their extensive green knowledge to secure single-figure wins, while Dave Shaw was best for the River.

After a strong showing last year, the Sandrats of Askam are again full of confidence and hovering just behind the leaders after an emphatic 12-2 victory against Lindal Moor A, another team with a strong youth policy.

Ian Jones took the sweep money with his 21-4 win, backed up by Gareth Knowles, 21-9. For Lindal, Peter Davey and Keith Johnson managed to get over the line to restore some pride.

Glaxo made one of the longest trips of the season to Walney Park and, in a game of two halves, found themselves on the wrong end of a 9-5 result, not helped by only fielding 11 players.

For the Park, the top five all visited the winners’ enclosure, with Keith Dixon leading the way with a 21-9 success. Glaxo fought back, with the next five on the sheet hitting 21. Derek Bell and Norman McLeod produced single-figure victories.

The final fixture saw Co-op entertain Dalton Cricket and, although it was tight in games, as they took seven to the Cricket Club’s five, they claimed the aggregate comfortably thanks to four single-figure wins.

The pick of these was Alan Fay’s 21-2 display, backed up by a trio of Daves, Irvine, Dawes and Wilson. Martin Steele and Dave Kent replied for Dalton.
