TOM Addison won a three-way battle with Helm Hill team-mate Josh Jardine and Black Combe’s Harry Stainton to win the Kirkby Moor Fell Race.

The 2014 English Fell Running champion, who is supported by South Cumbrian firm inov-8, came out on top at the end 11.1km trek, which takes in460m of ascent.

His time of 50:46 on the run from Beckside was 13 seconds quicker than Jardine, with Stainton coming home in 51:14 for third place.

It was a strong display from Addison, who is looking to rediscover his 2014 form during the 2017 campaign.

Black Combe’s Harvey Lord came home as the next best, his time of 53:46 demonstrating the gap the leading trio had built up on the rest of the field over the rolling moorland. Another host club runner, Anna Lupton, was the first lady home, in a time of 58:26 – which was good enough for 14th place overall. Club-mate Rebecca Rooke was second in 1:11:57.

A total of 58 runners finished the course, significantly down on numbers from recent years.
