BARROW fighter Ross Cooksey started his professional career in knockout style against Stefan Sashov.
The Barrow Amateur Boxing Club product, fighting out of Jimmy Egan’s Manchester Boxing Academy, defeated the Bulgarian in quick order at Victoria Warehouse, Manchester.
Cooksey, a former national schoolboys champion, knocked out his 28-year-old opponent just two minutes into the first round, landing a left hook to the body which had his opponent unable to get back up for some time.
He said: “It was a left hook to the body, I landed it and he didn’t get up – he didn’t get up for quite a while even after the count.”
The 24-year-old South Cumbrian is following in the footsteps of fellow Barrow ABC amateur product and close friend Liam Conroy, who turned professional in 2012.
