KINGS of the Castle, Chris Irvine and Jamie Kempster, reigned supreme at Barrow’s very own World Cup of Darts.

Irvine and Kemspter beat Castle club-mates Simon Whiteside and Tommy Richardson 3-1 in the final, following a marathon day at the oche.

A total of of 24 pairs took part, with qualifying matches at Walney’s Castle House Hotel and the Masons, Dalton.

The top four pairs from the two events progressed to the finals night, on the same day at Duddon Sports Club, Askam.

Irvine and Kempster progressed from the Castle group stages as winners, and were joined by the pairings of Ross Rimmer and Steve Woodburn, Richie Hall and Dave Tindling, and Liam Armistead and Jason Caine.

Qualifiers from the Masons were group winners Whiteside and Richardson, plus Darren Clarke and Danny Backhouse, Kev and Paul Beaumont, and Kieron Miles and Nikki Lavery.

Irvine and Kempster progressed to the final at Duddon with wins over Miles and Lavery and Tindling and Hall, while Whiteside and Richardson accounted for Armistead and Caine and Rimmer and Woodburn.

Reflecting on their tournament victory, Irvine said: “It’s really nice to win this competition for the first time and I’m made up as it really was a strong field with the cream of the crop in local talent on show.”

The players thanked the organisers, including the markers and callers, Nick O’Toole and Steve Callister, the sponsors and raffle ticket sellers.

A big event on the horizon is the annual Castle House Christmas Singles and Doubles on December 28, with a minimum first prize of £250 at stake.
