A STABLEYARD going from strength to strength will be the focus of a prime-time BBC One programme.

Trainer James Moffatt, the staff and owners at Pitt Farm Stables in Cartmel will feature in Monday's Inside Out North West .

The programme will look at Mr Moffatt and several of his horses – including one, Nicolas Chauvin, bought at the sales in May and through to his runs at Cartmel Racecourse during the summer.

The nine-year-old was purchased by the experienced trainer for the Ladsdoracing partnership, made up of a number of friends from Millom and Bootle.

In an instance of perfect-timing, Nicolas Chauvin won his first race for trainer and owners at Wetherby last week, to the delight of all concerned.

While that victory was not in front of the BBC cameras, previous outings for the horse and his connections were, and Mr Moffatt said: “They followed us at the May races, and they also went to the sales with me, so they were there when we bought the horse.

“They filmed at the June meeting, and they were filming the lads watching the horse finish second. They interviewed Steve after that.

“It's all timely now that the horse has won before this goes out on Monday.

“They've broadly looked at the whole yard, but this is one of the ones they have latched onto, because it happened to cover all the aspects of buying the horse, watching him run, culminating in the horse winning.

“Unfortunately, the cameras weren't there on Wednesday to watch the horse win, but they're going to write that into the piece.”

The TV crew interviewed staff at the yard, including Barrow stable girls Polly Steele and Charlotte Jones, as well as Steve Dawson – one of Nicolas Chauvin's owners – and James Boshier, owner of another horse, Idder.

“They were lovely people to work with, very polite, and you didn't know they were there,” added Mr Moffatt.

“It's nice for the yard, for the girls, and they interviewed some of the owners, it's nice for them as well.”

The programme will be broadcast at 7.30pm on Monday, and will be available online and on the iPlayer afterwards.
