BRITISH boxing legend Frank Bruno is heading to Ulverston next month, with promoters hoping the occasion will be knockout success.

The former WBC World Heavyweight champion – who in 1995 lifted the title after outpointing Oliver McCall at a packed Wembley Stadium – is expected to pull no punches when he appears on the stage to talk about his life and career.

The crowd will also get a chance to submit questions to the 54-year-old sporting great – who also got into the ring with Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis – at the Coronation Hall on August 26, beginning at 7.30pm.

Whitehaven rugby league player-turned-comic John Lebbon will act as MC, with Greg Cook performing stand-up on the evening.

An auction of sports memorabilia will be held with donations going to St Mary's Hospice and Barrow Raiders star Liam Harrison.

The Craven Park ace is in his testimonial season and Lebbon, who played alongside Harrison during a loan spell at Barrow, is hoping to auction off a signed shirt or some piece of memorabilia signed by Bruno.

“Liam has probably been Barrow's best player for the last 10 years, he was always a nice lad so we are trying to help him out,” said Lebbon, who also turned out for Workington.

Tickets priced £35 are available from the venue's box office, with tables for 10 also available. There will also be an opportunity for pictures with Bruno.
