British Legion dominate Barrow Friday League billiards standings

They took all three games on their home table, with Allan Edmondson, captain Peter Johnson – with a 26 run-out – Kevin Quinn all victorious.

Navy Club A were also in good form, taking two games at home to Vickerstown Cricket Club.

Captain Geoff Turner was back to winning ways, running out with breaks of 19 and 27, backed up by Stuart Benson. Peter Scott took the away point against Barry Crawford.

Soccer Bar came out best against Navy Club B, with points from Jimmy Wilson against opposing captain John Clamp, and Denis Plant. Paul Kyle scored for the Navy.

On the snooker table, defending champions and play-off winners Soccer Bar have their eye on top spot after a 2-1 win.

Navy's Joe O’Leary was the real star of the night, with an excellent 57 break, the highest of the season, to restrict Alan Eaton to only two visits to the table. Josh Howarth and Steve Redpath scored for the Supporters Club.

British Legion kept up with the pace with a 3-0 triumph against Roose.

Top man Ray Gardner potted well and set the pace with an excellent 34 break; captain Alf Carruthers beat Nick Wilkes on the colours in a tight game; and Colin Taylor finished the late night with a comfortable win over Mike Irving.

Navy Club A could only manage one point at home to Vickerstown, Benson winning on a black-ball decider against Paul Fitzpatrick. Josh Francis and Scott sealed the away points.

The Navy had a bad result on the oche as well, going down 5-2.

Brian Tucker (100), Paul Fitzpatrick, David Holmes, captain Bob Crosthwaite (125) and Josh Francis were on form for the Walney side. Dave Armstrong, with two tons, and Stuart Benson saved grace for the Navy.

British Legion bested Roose Cons for their first win of the season, thanks to Allan Edmondson, Colin Taylor, John Sowerby and Gordon Hutton. Tony Norman’s 121 was not enough for a win. Rob Chissim Ray Cooney and Terry Chissim replied.

Barrow Football Supporters Club had a bad night, losing 6-1 to Navy B.

Although Soccer Bar top man Mike Fletcher (134, 140 knock-up) was in scintillating form as he shows himself favourite to take the title for the second year running, Dave Rafferty (140-123), O’Leary, Brian Linklater, Chris Kirkby (100-125) and Andy Charnley (100,104 knock-up) made up a dominant Navy side.

Navy A were 3-1 don winners over Vickerstown to take them top. Captain Brian Jones, firstly with his regular partner and secondly with Keith Benson, and Stuart Benson with Keith Benson took their points.

Alan Edwards and Josh Francis stopped the whitewash.

Roose Cons beat British Legion through the pairings of Ray Cooney and Peter Roberts, Mike Irving and Peter Roberts, and John Warburton and Jimmy Johnson.

Legion captain Kevin Quinn and Alf Carruthers took the home point.

Navy B had a 3-1 victory over the Soccer Bar to bring them back into contention, thanks to Chris Kirkby and Pat Fogharty, Dave Rafferty and Ian Large and captain Ray Procter and Pat Kyle.

Ian Walsh and Harold Pearson took the vital home point.

Quadruple winner: Stuart Benson (Navy Club A), snooker, billiards, darts and don.
