GEORGIA Stanway flies to Jordan this afternoon with the England Women's Under-17s squad to shoot for World Cup glory.

The Barrow-born Manchester City ace is part of a 21-strong squad jetting out from London for the tournament, which starts on September 30.

England qualified for the Under-17s World Cup for the first time after finishing third in the European Championships earlier this year, and will face Brazil, Nigeria and North Korea in the group stages of the tournament.

The Young Lionnesses' first game is against North Korea on Saturday, Ocotber 1, followed by clashes with Nigeria on Tuesday, October 4 and Brazil on Saturday, October 8.

Stanway was last week tipped for a future in the England senior side, with manager Mark Sampson believing her trip to Jordan will help develop her game.

He said: “The door is always open. We will always pick the best team that I believe can help England win.

“The pool is increasing with the likes of Stanway, who’s going to get a massive experience at the Under-17s World Cup.

“I’m really excited to see her playing for Manchester City’s first team regularly, scoring goals, and now with another World Cup under her belt you look at the end of that tournament in Jordan and Stanway suddenly has some really good experience to then compete for a senior spot, potentially.”
