BARROW ABC pair Tia Davies and Josh Jones continued their impressive form with victories on the road.

Davies defeated the previously unbeaten R Arnett, of Vulcan ABC, on a split decision in Hull, while Jones earned a majority decision against Russian opponent Vibatou, from Windermere, at a show in Stockport.

“Tia boxed brilliantly,” said Brook Street head coach Jeff Moses.

“She had to drop the weight from 74 kilos to 71 to take the bout, and the lass she fought was unbeaten. She was also a lot taller than Tia, which made it awkward and she gave her a lot of trouble with her jab.

“Tia had to work hard for the next two rounds because she was behind, and she went non-stop up and down on the body and when she closed her down she couldn’t cope.”

Jones also had to toil hard to earn what was his third victory this year, after the 24-year-old got off to a slow start against Vibatou.

“The Russian was all over him in the first round,” said Moses. “He was stronger than he thought. We had to have a little talk and Josh got stuck in. He was playing catch-up but his shots got more accurate and he won on a split.

“It was very close, it could have gone either way, and we would have accepted it if he had not got it.”

Big Jim Braithwaite took a short notice bout in Wigan and came away with a first-round stoppage win over A Price, of Team Kaobon. The Swarthmoor slugger also showed great sportsmanship side by easing off after dominating his opponent in the early stages.

“Jim hit him quite a few times and eased off and the referee stepped in and stopped it,” said Moses.

“He gave the referee time to step in and make sure he was all right, which is credit to Jim.”

Jordan Dix was another Barrow ABC man to take a fight at short notice, and he was involved in a titanic battle against soon-to-be pro Anton Wright, of Paramount, at the Stockport show.

Dix lost a split decision but won many admirers for his durability and never-say-die attitude against a very strong opponent.

“Jordan has trained really hard and put the time in, but the lad that he boxed was like a bulldog,” said Moses.

“He tried to take Jordan out with some big shots that would have dropped an average fella. Even the judge who was stood next to me asked me how was he still stood up?

"But he took the shots and answered back. It was a proper tough battle. Jordan got beat on a split decision and the lad told us afterwards he is turning pro. That’s the sort of condition Jordan was in that he could take it.”

Completing a trio of boxers in the black and gold colours at the Stockport show was Xander Parramore, making his debut for the club after previously boxing with Furness Catholic ABC.

The 13-year-old lost a split decision to K Breen, of Paramount, but Moses was impressed by the promise she showed.

“It gave us an opportunity to have a look at him to see what his strengths are, what he can and can’t do, and he did well. He gave a good account of himself,” said the coach.
