PLAYERS from some of the great Barrow Thorns teams of the past will be reunited this Saturday for a handicap tournament to help celebrate the 40th anniversary of the club at the Hoops Basketball Centre.

Sides representing the 1990 National Club and National Inter-Association runners-up, the 1992 National Club Champions, National Inter-Association Champions and 1995 National Junior League runners-up, the 1998 National 3v3 and 1999 Inter-Association runners-up, and the 2003 Inter-Association Champions and 2005 World Championship group winners will meet in a four-team tournament to be played on the day.

The teams will play for the David Cole/Dan Logan Trophy, which is in memory of two of the club's former players, with seven former schoolboy internationals and 16 North of England representatives expected to be taking part in the competition.

Cole's cousin Alex Doughty has been invited to guest for the 1992 team too, as this is the team both of them played for.

Over the past four decades, Barrow have won 10 national titles, been nine-time runners-up and contested 33 semi-finals.

The day will also see a short game between a France Family Select and a Thorns Select as part of former coach Ian France's 70th birthday celebrations.

Tip-off for the semi-finals is at 1pm and admission for the tournament is £2 for adults and £1 for children, with all proceeds being split between the Furness Oncology Department and the David Cole Charity for Oncology Nursing Education.
