ONE of the biggest events in the South Cumbrian running calendar takes place tonight, with the 30th staging of the Glaxo Hoad Hill Harriers summer 10k.

A bumper entry is expected for this milestone race with the Harriers having sent out a special invite to club members who took part in the first race back in 1986.

To celebrate the special event, the Harriers have commissioned a celebratory medal to be presented to all finishers of the 10k and children’s one-mile fun run and small mementos as a thank-you for their support over the years.

Race Director Louise Halliday said: “It couldn’t be a better year to celebrate this milestone as running has seen a massive growth in popularity around the town, and we’d love to see as many as runners as possible.”

The children’s fun run starts at 7pm and the 10k at 7.30pm.

Runners can enter tonight, with registration taking place in Glaxo Sports Club from 6pm (£8 for EA club runners, £10 non-EA club runners and £2 for the fun run).

The event is sponsored by Steve Martin Associates; Pete Bland Sports, GSK, Mace (project Management), SISK (main Contractor) and Coniston Outdoors.
