THE first qualifiers for the Grand Finals night of this year’s Evening Mail Darts tournament will be decided tomorrow night in the first of the area final at Dalton Cricket Club.

Former champion Steve Callister is among the big names duking it out tomorrow night for a place in the decider at Cloud Nine on Saturday, September 22.

But he will face stiff competition from the likes of the in-form Barry Twiname, former finalist Sean Miles and the Beaumont brothers from Millom, Paul and Kevin.

The Barrow area final takes place the following Saturday and the line-up for that has now been confirmed following the completion of the first and second round of matches.

Notable names to watch in what looks to be a great night of darts a week tomorrow include pre-tournament favourite James Kempster and the in-form Ross Rimmer.

Last year’s losing semi-finalist and event organiser Chris Irvine is still in the mix too and there will be several area final debutants looking to land a place in the Grand Final.

Among them are Red River men Ian Greaves, Martin Rhodes and Tyler Armistead, with new kid on the block Luke Shaw in contention too after overcoming Furness CC team-mate Ryan Griffiths 3-2.

Castle’s Craig Mansell will making his debut at this stage too after over coming Zak Walker 3-1.

Nat Hardie is aiming to go one better than last year when he bowed out at this stage and the ever-popular Steve Woodburn will be looking to land himself a Grand Final place for the first time in his career.

Meanwhile, multi-time Evening Mail Darts champion John Kane will be the special guest on Grand Finals night and will conduct the draw, along with giving a talk on his career.

Irvine was keen to thank Kane for agreeing to attend. Doors for the first area final at Dalton tomorrow are 6.30pm.
