BROTHERS will go to war and policemen will come to blows, as Croftlands Park FC step into the ring for a special night of charity boxing action.

Players from the Furness Premier League outfit will be lacing up their gloves at the Coronation Hall on Friday, August 24.

The event is being held to raise money for Alice's Escapes, and will feature eight bouts, refereed by Barrow professional Liam Conroy.

Brothers Ben and Lee Donnan will open proceedings as they get to take years of sibling rivalry into the ring, followed by policeman Rickie Wallbank taking on fellow bobby Chris Ivison, Steven Grundy battling Chris Malone and Jacob White fighting Zach Mooney.

After a break, four more fights see Henry Armer take on Dan Craig, Lewis Jones box against Warren Bolton, Lewis Seeds battle Jack Holmes in a rematch of a previous in-ring encounter, and Oliver Mullen bring the curtain down with George Cubiss.

The fighters have been training at Ryan Watson's boxing gym in Marton as they brush up for the big night, and first-team assistant boss Ben Mooney – who has organised the event alongside chairman Shaun Dixon and players Matt Dean and Sam Moore – is looking forward to the action.

“We wanted to raise money for Alice's Escape, and this would be a fun thing to do,” said Mooney.

“We've organised weekly training sessions for the boxers at Watson's Gym, and they're really enjoying it.

“The two policemen look really good, and all the lads are training hard.”

The club thanked main sponsors The Sun Inn and Henry Armer Fitness, and also the businesses and individuals who have donated prizes for the raffle and auction – which include a signed Manchester City shirt from Georgia Stanway, a signed Barrow AFC shirt from Nathan Waterston and two tickets for Liverpool v Manchester United.

Doors open for the night at 6pm, with the first fight at 7pm.

Balcony tickets for the event are available, priced £15. They can be obtained by emailing Matt Dean at croftlandsparkfc@hotmail.com
