ROSS Rimmer and Kenny Hartley claimed global oche dominance with victory in the Nikki Lavery World Cup of Darts Memorial.

The pair triumphed in front of a packed Cloud Nine on a night when popular former player Lavery was remembered – with £1103 raised for the Furness Stroke Support Group.

The eight pairs who made it to the final had come through qualifying events at the Castle House, Walney, and Duddon Sports Club, Askam.

Rimmer and Hartley were joined by Steve Woodburn and Ben Sowerby, Chris Irvine and James Kempster and Simon Whiteside and Tommy Richardson in progressing from the Castle.

The successful Duddon pairs were Barry Twiname and Richie Hall, Karl Twiname and Phil Myers, Dave Eccles and Lol Crease, and Dale Miles and Kieron Miles.

In addition, Toni Ormandy and Darren Ormandy, Danielle Williams and Amie Walker, Chris Atkinson and Simon Garnett, and Sharon Hubbold and Jo Wainwright reached the Losers' Plate competition after missing out on top-four finishes at their events.

Finals night saw a number of close encounters, with some superb darts thrown.

There were more than 10 maximum 180s, and numerous 100-plus checkouts on display.

Hartley and Rimmer overcame Irvine and Kempster 3-2 in the final, with a close match going to the deciding leg.

The Losers' Plate was won by Williams and Walker. That success was especially poignant as Williams is Lavery's sister, making it a win she will never forget.

The event was organised by Chris Irvine and Karl Twiname, who thanked everyone who supported the night, especially Lavery's parents Jason and Julie Williams, main sponsor South Cumbria Lettings, and other sponsors Cumbria Plumbing and Heating, Des Johnston Recruitment, DPC Joinery, the Clarence Dalton, the Lavery/Williams family and Hotwire Graphics.

They also thanked Castle House, Duddon Sports and Cloud Nine for their sponsorship and hosting the event.

Anyone wishing to sponsor next year's competition should contact Irvine or Twiname.
