A COLOURFUL collection of runners and cyclists are set to brighten up the streets as part of Ulverston Tri Club’s Captain’s Day celebrations, while raising money for good causes.

Consisting of an adult duathlon followed by a children’s aquathlon, the event takes place on Sunday, August 12, with people of all ages and athletic ability invited to have a go.

Competitors are encouraged to wear fancy dress, and the charities set to benefit are Ulverston’s St Mary’s Hospice and the Mountain Rescue.

Setting off from Ulverston Tennis Centre at 11am, the duathlon consists of a 17km Coast Road bike ride, sandwiched by two 5km runs in and around the town and nearby country lanes.

Following the senior event, there will be a junior aquathlon (2pm start).

Entries are limited to 25 teams (50 people) for the duathlon and 30 children for the aquathlon, with an entry deadline of Wednesday, August 8.

Completing the day’s events, there will be a fun day at Ulverston Social Club, which will comprise a buffet, raffle, UTC Bake Off championship, bouncy castle and a quiz.

Entry to the social is included in competitors’ entry fee, and families and friends are urged to turn up in numbers, and to make a small donation in aid of the charities.
