MIKE McGoldrick was far from satisfied with his display against Callum Ide, despite making it two wins from two in the professional ranks at Bolton Whites Hotel.

The Barrow light-heavyweight scored a shut-out win on the scorecard of referee Mark Lyson in the four-round contest, triumphing 40-36.

But while he was pleased to chalk up another victory, McGoldrick has already eyed areas for improvement to work on with trainer Johnney Roye, and praised Ide for his showing.

“I'm pleased with my record, but I'm not particularly pleased with my performance,” said McGoldrick.

“I thought he did enough to maybe get an upset and get the draw there. I thought he boxed really well, but that's not what the referee thought.

“I'm 2-0, so I'll go back into the gym, listen to Johnney and work on everything I did wrong, and come back and fight again.”

McGoldrick set about trying to nullify Ide’s height advantage from the opening bell with some shots to the body, along with keeping his head moving to duck out of the way of the Bognor Regis journeyman’s long jabs.

The 33-year-old showed no hesitation in taking the fight to Ide either and switched up his attacks to the head with some good combinations as the fight progressed – although Ide was, in turn, able to land some shots of his own.

Ultimately though, McGoldrick did more than enough to take a wide points victory and was pleased to get another four rounds under his belt – even though he admitted he thought he might be behind on Lyson’s scorecard going into the final three minutes.

“It's always good to get four rounds in,” said McGoldrick. “Everyone likes to stop people, but this early on in your career, it's good to get the rounds in and feel what it's like to be in the last round.

“Especially that fight, I thought I might have been down on the cards so I was going for it in the last round, so that experience is always good.”
