LEE Kellett defied back and arm injuries to claim a points victory over Ryan Kilpatrick in Aberdeen.

The Askam heavyweight went into the fight already suffering from the back problem, and then tore a muscle during the contest on the undercard of Lee McAllister's shock 10th-round stoppage victory over one-time Mike Tyson conqueror Danny Williams.

However, Kellett shrugged those off to triumph 40-36 on the scorecard of referee Lee Murtagh after four rounds and now has his sights set on a possible overseas title shot later this year.

“I was struggling with a back injury, but got the call and went and boxed a 19-stone guy, and won on points,” said Kellett.

“I picked up a torn arm muscle on the way, but I’m happy with the win and with years of experience I know how to get through fights – even when I’m injured.

“Hopefully, that win got me a title fight in Cyprus in October.”

The 37-year-old is hoping that potential clash will be the perfect way to bring down the curtain on his in-ring career after restating his intention to hang his gloves up at the end of 2018.

Kellett has already looked into getting involved on the coaching side of the sport and is pursuing options outside of boxing as well.

“I've said it so many times, but I really only want one more year fighting,” said Kellett.

“I've started to make other plans on the coaching side now and to go and learn some other sports, so fingers crossed it’s looking good to end how I want it to.”
