On-course Shanks finally prove a good thing

CHRIS and Mick Shanks produced a fine round at Windermere Golf Club as they triumphed in the Mixed Fourball, in aid of Children in Need.

A large field took to the fairways for the event, organised by Babs Matthews, with the Shanks coming home with 45 points, one more than three pairs, to take victory.

Their prize was a stay at the Gilpin Lodge, one of many donated by sponsors to support the day and the cause.

Results were as follows, with prizes donated by the sponsors in brackets: 1. Chris and Mick Shanks, 45pts (Gilpin Lodge); 2. Will McAllister and Viv Gough, 44pts (card play-off) (Lancaster House Hotel); 3. Carolyn Middleton and David Smith, 44pts (Windermere Hydro Hotel); 4. Joy and Irving Blakey, 44pts (Brown Horse Inn); 5. Chris and Joanne March, 41pts (Gold Rill); 6. Dave and Gerry McDonnell, 40pts (Craig Manor); 7. Barry Gibson and Eileen Harwood 39pts (cpo) (Fairways Golf).

Nearest the pin prizes were awarded on the second, eighth, ninth, 14th, 15th and 18th holes, with seven twos recorded on the day. Each player who scored a two was presented with a prize of six golf balls.

The golf was followed by a curry evening at the club as well as a raffle, with prizes including lessons with Windermere pro Simon Edwards.

A total of £1,056 was raised for Children in Need across the day.
