MILLOM’S great home form continued as they beat promotion hopefuls Castleford Lock Lane in a rip-roaring battle.

The Woollybacks were out of the blocks quickly and, after a spell of pressure in the opposition’s danger zone, they went ahead on 15 minutes.
The strong-running Paul Carter crashed through two players to score to the left of the posts, with Paul Evans converting for 6-0.
With Marcus O’Brien back from injury and causing Lock Lane all sorts of trouble with his probing runs in a man-of-the-match display, added to strong running from forwards Wayne Ruddy, Ethan Kelly and Tom Sibley, Millom were well in control.
It was no surprise therefore when they extended their lead – a neat inside ball from Ross Brookes finding Ricky Donaghue who went over to make it 10-0.
It was Brookes’ turn to cross the line next, shooting through a gap with the help of a side-step to make it 14-0 at the interval.
The second half belonged to Lock Lane however.
The Yorkshiremen got back into the game five minutes after the break with a converted try.
Millom then had Gareth Heasley sent off for a suspected head butt, and this seemed to spur the away team on, but Millom’s defence held firm until the 75th minute when Lock Lane’s outstanding player, Phil Lythe, broke down the left to score.
This set up a tense finish, and, with seconds remaining on the clock, Lock Lane looked certain to score but Paul Carter pulled off a great ball-and-all tackle. The final whistle then blew to seal a hard-earned victory.
Millom’s home form is keeping them in a mid-table position, but a few away wins could push them further up the standings.
