ULVERSTON Golf Club Ladies Section are hoping for more success after a productive 2016 season.

The Bardsea club’s Three Counties Silver team go into the year as dfending champions, while their Three Counties Bronze team also won their league last season.

Ulverston Ladiescompeted in two separate one-day competitions within the county.

The club hosted the Westmorland and North Lancashire Shields, with Ulverston playing against 13 clubs from within Cumbria, and narrowly missed winning the Handicap Shield by only one shot.

The ladies team also played in the Cumbria One Day Team Trophies, at Kendal Golf Club.

Although Ulverston did not win, they were in the lead for some time.

In addition, an Ulverston Ladies team also reached the eighth round of the Mail on Sunday nationwide competitionwith an impressive run of results.

Ulverston Ladies Section entered five teams who competed during the season against other clubs from within Cumbria.

These included the Silver A team, who played in Division One of the County League.

This league is played under scratch conditions and the Ulverston team, after all the matches were played, will remain in Division One for the 2017 campaign.

The Silver B team (who play with their handicaps taken into consideration) were less fortunate and will drop down a league and play in Division Five.

The Cecil Leitch Bronze Team will remain in Division Two of their league.

The Three Counties Silver team won their semi-final match and played in the final against Settle at Furness Golf Club.

With the match all-square match after 18 holes, Ulverston were victorious when team captain Elizabeth Marr-Smith went down the first extra hole to win the match and Ulverston became the 2016 champions.

The Three Counties Bronze team played in the final of their league and brought home the trophy.

This team also played in the Interclub Day at Morecambe and were runners up.
