Curiosity got the better of me and I watched on the BBC Red Button to see how everything was going.
It was actually an exciting finish to the event with a worthy winner.Rose had said all along that the Olympics were part of his season and he would definitely be going, so it was nice to see him victorious.
This week the ladies tee off in their event, with Team GB being represented by Charley Hull and Catriona Matthew.
I think I’m right in saying that none of the top ladies in the world have withdrawn from the event and they are all in Rio to compete. So what next for Olympic golf?
It’s onwards and upwards towards Tokyo 2020 where it is included. After that, it’s up in the air as to whether it continues as an Olympic event.
I don’t know the criteria for it staying in the Games, whether it be crowds, participants or whether it comes down to the decision makers deeming the Rio and Tokyo tournaments a success.
I’m engrossed in the Olympics and have watched hours of cycling, badminton and hockey and stayed up to watch Jess Ennis and Mo Farah, but despite being a golf geek I wasn’t too bothered about watching my favourite sport.
As I said, curiosity made me have a watch, and maybe it got the better of the notable absentees and they switched on too.
Perhaps, like tennis, it will grow into a guaranteed Olympic sport over the years and become part of the calendar for everyone.
