ALL the president’s best men and women went into battle at Furness Golf Club, with Neil Tippins and Alyson Wood emerging victorious to claim the top prizes.

Tippins came out on top in the men’s section at Barry Nicholson’s President’s Day, with a nett score of 65, although a card play-off was required to separate him from runner-up Tony Norman, who had fired the same total.

Ray Hogg came third with nett 66, while the fourth and fifth places were occupied by Craig MacGranthin (68) and Craig Holland (69) respectively.

The ladies’ contest was also a close affair, with Wood claiming first place after firing 73. Gill Punton was second and Di Herbert third, with the duo both finishing just one shot behind the champion.

Paul Southward produced the best gross round with 71, one shot better than Rob Leitch, while Jon Clarke won the Butchers Cup as he produced the best combined Captain’s Day (68) and President’s Day (75) gross score ,with a total of 143.

Dougie Day was the over-65 winner, with nett 71, and the nearest to the pin competitions were won by Dave Brown (2nd) Steve Clawley (6th), Gary Rootham (10th) and Ray Gwynne (18th – in two).
