WINDERMERE Golf Club’s ladies section have brought in a new captain to help celebrate their 125th birthday.

Helen Partington was brought into office at the section’s annual general meeting and prize-giving, with Anne Hart her vice-captain.

The duo will be in place for 2016, when Windermere will celebrate a special anniversary, having come into being in 1891.

Partington has been a member at the Lake District club for five years, while Hart has played the course for seven.

“It’s a great honour to be selected as lady captain and I am very much looking forward to the year ahead, supported by Anne and the ladies section” said Partington.

The evening also recognised Jane Harper as winner of the Ladies Championship, while Wendy Foster took the runners-up position.

The following morning, more than 40 members turned out in fine conditions to toast the new lady captain’s drive-in off the first tee.

The lady captain for 2015, Pam Tigg, putted out on the 18th green to mark the end of her time in office. Members thanked her for her efforts over the past year, with two separate nine-hole competitions and lunch finishing off an enjoyable 24 hours of celebration for the ladies section.

Windermere chairman Cliff Heath welcomed the new appointments for 2016, and said: “We welcome Helen and Anne to their new positions and wish them well in the year ahead.

“Both are experienced golfers and I’m sure their contribution will help Windermere continue to be one of the best clubs in the county.

“We welcome their input in one of our most significant years ahead as we celebrate our 125th anniversary.”
