Furness football hotshot Georgia’s two-goal England debut

FOOTBALLING hotshot Georgia Stanway is celebrating scoring two goals on a sensational debut for England.
The 13-year-old Barrow striker came on as a substitute against the Republic of Ireland to help the England under-15s team sink the opposition 9-0.
Representing her country was a dream come true for the Dowdales School pupil, who harbours hopes of one day playing for England at senior level.
Georgia summed up her England baptism in just one word – “amazing”.
The talented teenager got the nod to play during the half-term break, while she was on a week-long England camp at St George’s Park, the newly-opened home of the National Football Centre, in Burton-Upon-Trent.
After impressing on her debut, Georgia will now be invited to further England get-togethers and Elite Performance Camps.
Her proud mother Joanne said Georgia had enjoyed a fabulous week, adding: “She got some game play on the Wednesday, she got about 25 minutes and got two goals.”
Georgia did not play in the second match, which England won 3-1, but was kitted out, with her coaches keeping her warmed-up in case she was called into action.
“She brought home the England top that she had worn, her first England top,” said Joanne.
“It’s very early days, but she enjoyed the experience.
“She has done very well. She has got her sights on England long-term, but obviously it’s up to the England coaches.
“I think it’s come very early on. She wants to play at senior level, but she is just enjoying the experience and continues to work hard – let’s see what happens.”
Georgia is to attend another Elite Performance Camp in a few weeks’ time.
“It’s where they assess the England potential and put their names forward to the England squad,” added Joanne.
Georgia has just signed a new 12-month contract with Blackburn Rovers Centre of Excellence.
The pacy striker has banged in 30 goals for the Ewood Park club against teams from other centres of excellence.
Her skills were spotted by England scouts, which led to her being invited to an EPC earlier this year and to making her dream debut.
