MILLOM will play Askam in the Furness Senior Cup final after both sides won through difficult semi-final battles this week.

The last-four ties took place side by side on the Hawcoat Park pitches, and both were won by West Lancs League sides against Furness Premier League opposition.

Millom beat Barrow Celtic 2-1. A Ben McDonald goal and a Carl Waters penalty were enough to see them into the final, where they will meet Askam who faced a team three leagues below them in the shape of Dalton United reserves.

Askam won the tie 2-1, with Lee Irvine the hero with a two-goal return. Ben McCabe scored a penalty for Dalton.

Another busy week of local football action started on Tuesday night as Holker Old Boys beat St Helens Town 2-0. Jamie Pattinson scored both Holker’s goals in North West Counties Division One.

There was an upset in the Paul Wilson Cup, as FPL Division One Ormsgill North End beat Premier Division side Haverigg on penalties after a 3-3 draw.

Anthony Foster, along with John and Luke Chmiel, scored for Haverigg, but in a brilliant team display, Paul Fleming, Mike Crampton and Carl Gill replied for Ormsgill, who went through 4-2 after the spot-kicks.

In the Furness Premier League, reigning champions Kirkby finished off their league campaign with a 2-1 win over Walney.

Tom Wildgoose and Paul Cleasby scored for Kirkby, for whom 59-years-young assistant manager Tommy Jackson came on and played the final few minutes. James Bailey found the net for Walney.

Hawcoat reserves finished their season with a 3-1 win at Swarthmoor reserves.

Josh Price scored for Swarthmoor, while Sam Jefferson, Jake Rees and stalwart Chris Hill all found the net for Hawcoat. They sit top of the table, as they have done for most of the season, but there are a number of teams with games in hand they could see their lead overtaken in the coming weeks.

Two of them teams in hot pursuit are Croftlands and Holker reserves who faced each other at Rakesmoor and it was Croftlands who continued their terrific league form with a 3-2 win.

Matt Dean (2) and Martin Bowd netted for Croftlands. Chris Wraighte and an own goal made up the Holker reply.

Vickerstown reserves beat Bootle 4-3. Kev Bahamrenesh, Scott McDonald, Jackson Round and utility man Mark Johnson all scored for Vickerstown.

GSK Ulverston Rangers reserves drew 3-3 with Furness Rovers reserves.

Chris Bolton, Sam Pinnegor and Ronan Simpson shared the goals for GSK. Rob While (2) and Josh Jones replied for Furness Rovers.
