BARROVIAN footballing starlet Aimee Everett has been called up to England’s under-15s squad and is currently showcasing her talent at a Three Lions training camp at Loughborough University.

The 14-year-old Blackburn Rovers striker is striving to follow in the footsteps of her good friend and England under-17s international captain Georgia Stanway.

Dalton ace Stanway is also making massive strides on the domestic scene at Manchester City, having made the move from Blackburn.

Everett, who attends St Bernard’s School in Barrow, has been part of England’s regional training camps before, but this is the first time she has been part of a fully-fledged national squad.

She linked up with the squad yesterday and the camp will last until Thursday – ahead of the get-together it was not known whether the girls will play any games.

Everett’s mother, Andrea Hodgson, said: “Aimee was dead chuffed and over the moon at being selected, she would probably have been a little bit nervous as well.

“But because she’s been to previous camps I think there will be girls there from clubs like Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal who she has met up with before when she’s been at testing days (involving girls who shone brightest at the regional training camps) and things like that.

“So there should be familiar faces, she was excited.”

Everett started playing the game at the age of six and featured for boys teams at Holker Old Boys and Crooklands Casuals.

She completed a spell at Preston North End and signed for Blackburn around three years ago.

Sport is in Everett’s blood. Her father is Phil Everett, the ex-Barrow Raiders flying winger who played for the town’s flagship rugby league outfit between 1993 and 1996, as well as shining in the amateur scene with Barrow Island.

On Aimee’s future, Andrea added: “We’ve known Georgia for a long time and travelled backwards and forwards with her to Blackburn.

“Aimee has seen what Georgia has done – left school, signed for Manchester City, living in Manchester, playing for England under-17s and everything else.

“Aimee has seen Georgia being able to achieve these big things and those are the type of goals that Aimee is aiming for now.

“Just recently at Blackburn, instead of training twice a week with the under-15s they’ve moved her up so that once a week she’s training with the under-17s because they’ve said that she’s already at that level despite being only 14.

“So she’s progressing really well.”
