THE recent bad weather which has seen the cancellation of the majority of local football fixtures continued at the weekend.

More heavy rain on Friday and into Saturday has left most teams facing a fixture backlog which will see sides playing a huge number of games between now and the end of the season.

In the games that were played in the Furness Premier, Kirkby United beat Swarthmoor reserves 11-1 in the top-flight.

Goal-scorers for Kirkby were Matty Bruce (5), Dan Marshall (2), Andy Benson (2), Rob Fugler and Gav Jolly, who netted a penalty against his former club.

Kirkby are now four points behind leaders Hawcoat with three games in hand and a far superior goal difference.

Haverigg beat Bootle 3-0 thanks to goals from Luke Chmiel, John Chmiel and Anthony Foster in the only other Premier Division match to beat the conditions.

Result of the day must go to Division One side Dalton United reserves, who beat West Lancs Division Two side Swarthmoor 2-0 in the Furness Senior Cup.

Joe Fidler and Oliver Carswell scored for Dalton, who now face Askam in the semi-finals.

Only one game survived the weather in Division Two, as Millom A beat Dalton A 6-2.

Craig Rutherford and Jordan Fisher scored for Dalton, while Mark O’Brien (2), Jamie Pattinson (2), Josh Keen and Jason Heasley all netted for Millom, who now top the table and, with two games remaining, the title is in their hands.

It was generally a bad news day for South Cumbrian sides in the West Lancashire League, as Crooklands Casuals slipped into the relegation places of the Premier Division after an 11-0 defeat at the hands of current champions Blackpool Wren Rovers.

Crooklands have four games left to turn their fortunes around and, under new management duo Jonny Lowes and Chris McKenna, anything could happen.

Vickerstown, coming off the back of a 100 per cent win record in March started April with a 6-2 defeat away to Slyne.

Steve Kewley and Danny Keenan both scored for Dave Round’s side, who sit a creditable seventh in the table.

In Division One, GSK Ulverston Rangers had another fine win and they are now out of the automatic relegation places.

GSK travelled to promotion-chasing CMB and were 1-0 down with 10 minutes remaining before Matty Lawlor and James Pinnegor (2) made sure of the points for GSK.

In Division Two, Millom travelled to Fulwood Amateurs reserves, but came away empty-handed after a 3-1 defeat. Theo Wilson scored for Millom.

Furness Rovers were defeated 6-2 by Kendal County, Steve Crompton and McHugh netting for Rovers.

Walney also suffered away day blues as they were beaten 5-2 by Thornton Cleveleys reserves. James Baily and Callum Ducie scored for Walney.
