A new dawn at Barrow Wanderers
Last updated at 19:25, Saturday, 16 June 2012
BARROW Wanderers are celebrating after winning election to the West Lancashire League, while Millom have been spared relegation.
Having won the Furness Premier League title in each of the last two seasons, the Lesh Lane outfit’s first-team will now undertake a fresh challenge.
They will be one of four new clubs in Division Two next season, alongside Leyland United, Hurst Green and CMB FC (Bolton).
All were elected at the league’s AGM, held on Thursday night.
The introduction of the new quartet spared Millom and Mill Hill St Peters relegation from Division One.
Also at the meeting, Crooklands Casuals’ promotion to the Premier Division, alongside Longridge Town, was confirmed, with Stoneclough and Garstang relegated to Division One.
Ambleside United and Burscough Richmond were officially promoted to Division One, with Walney Island and Whinney Hill, who finished as the bottom two in Division Two, successfully going through the re-election process.
This means there will be 16 teams in the top two divisions and 15 in Division Two next season.
l The Bay radio station has struck a three-year deal as the new sponsor of the West Lancashire League.
l Gary Fawcett has been appointed as the new first-team manager at GSK Ulverston Rangers, who will once again play in West Lancashire League Division Two next season. Fawcett bossed the club’s reserve team to the Furness Premier League Division Two title last season.
