GEORGIA Stanway played a part in helping England get off the mark in the FIFA Under-17 Women's after scoring in the 3-3 draw with North Korea in their first match of Group C.

Birmingham City's Ellie Brazil put John Griffiths' side ahead after 20 minutes, with the North Koreans levelling nine minutes later through Sung Hyam-sin.

But Stanway restored England's lead just three minutes later, playing a neat one-two with strike partner Brazil and then finishing at the second attempt after her initial shot was blocked.

The Koreans fought back after half time, with Kim Pom-ui and Ko Kyong-hui striking to ensure they led with six minutes remaining.

But a finish by Alessia Russo in the fourth minute of added time ensured England earned a point at the King Abdullah Stadium in Amman.

Blackburn Rovers' South Cumbrian full-back Kelsey Pearson was also involved in the match, and both her and Stanway will hope to retain their places tomorrow when England face Nigeria at the Prince Mohammed Stadium in Zarqa in their second group match.

The Lionesses then round off Group C against Brazil at the Al-Hassan Stadium in Irbid this Saturday, with the knock-out stages getting underway a week on Wednesday.
