THE Riflemans Garage Furness Premier Division title race looks like a two-horse race between Kirkby United and Vickerstown reserves after the two sides met on Saturday in a thrilling contest at Park Vale.

Vickerstown edged to a 4-3 victory, which puts them a point behind Kirkby but with a game in hand.

Vickerstown's goals came from Mike Imison, Danny Douglas, Mike Adams and Tony Gooding, with Andy Doull (2) and Scott Watkinson on target for Kirkby in a game excellently controlled by referee Lee Wadsworth.

Hawcoat Park reserves and Haverigg United will not have given up hope of catching the top two, but there is a six-point gap to Hawcoat in third and fourth-placed Haverigg are seven points off the pace.

Hawcoat dropped two points after being held to a 1-1 draw at Bootle. Ryan Magtoto scored for Hawcoat, with Bootle's goal coming from an Oliver Smith penalty.

Haverigg came from 1-0 down against Furness Cavaliers reserves to win 2-1. Lee Simpson opened the scoring, but second-half goals from Luke Chmiel and Anthony Foster earned Haverigg the win.

GSK Ulverston Rangers reserves slipped up again, losing 3-2 to Furness Rovers reserves.

Rovers' scorers were Ben Comish, Rob While and Joe Bradbury, with Rangers' goals coming from Kain Ryan and Ronan Simpson, who netted direct from a corner.

Holker Old Boys beat Askam United 3-0 on Friday night with goals from John Paul Stanway, Greg Galloway and Reece Hudson.

At the bottom of the table, Millom reserves produced a remarkable result against Barrow Wanderers, winning 9-0.

Carl Waters had a field day, scoring four goals, with Chris Wood (2), Jamie Cairns, Tom McDonald and Tyler Maxwell Kelly also finding the net.

Swarthmoor Social reserves moved up to 11th place with a 4-2 win over Britannia. Swarthmoor's scorers were Jack Moore (2), Josh Price and Connor Menzler, while Charlie Shaw and Mark Treen netted for the Brit.

Croftlands Park are still on course for a treble after they reached the Horne Cup Final by beating Ormsgill North End 5-0 in the semi-final.

The goals came from Matt Dean (2), Shaun Dixon (2) and Andrew Currie. They face Crooklands Casuals in the final at Railway Meadow on Thursday, May 19 and the sides meet in a league game tonight at Longlands Park.

Crooklands still have a chance to finish as runners-up in Premier Tiles Division One after they beat Walney Island reserves 2-0 on Friday, with goals from Josh Miller and Scott Phizacklea.

Dalton United reserves are also in the hunt for second place following their 4-2 win over Vickerstown A. Scorers for Dalton were Keith Holmes (2), Ben Thompson and Shaun Fisher, with Joe Murphy and Phil Athersmith scoring for Vickerstown.

Walney are currently in second place and visit Dalton tomorrow and Dalton then host Crooklands on Friday, so Dalton's fate is in their own hands.

Haverigg United reserves ensured they avoided relegation with a 3-2 win against Barrow Wanderers reserves, which leaves Wanderers facing the drop to Division Two.

Haverigg's scorers were Alan Craghill, Gavin Scudamore and Wink Birkett, with Chris Cloudsdale and Tommy Walmsley on target for Wanderers.

The Travis Perkins Furness Senior Cup final between GSK Ulverston Rangers and Furness Rovers at Holker Street was a very entertaining affair.

Rovers took the lead through a Liam Shields penalty, but Mike Penny equalised direct from a corner.

Early in the second half, Andrew Whiteford restored Rovers' lead but James Pinnegor got Rangers level. Man-of-the-match Gav Butler put Rangers ahead for the first time with 10 minutes left but almost straight away Scott Goulding made it 3-3.

With penalties looming, Danny Leech volleyed home to win it 4-3 for Ulverston.

Cartmel suffered double cup dismay as they went down 4-3 to Highgrove in the North Lancs Senior Challenge Cup.

Having won two cups last year, this season they have lost in two finals.

Scorers against Highgrove were Matt Burrows, Steve Porter and Mike Robinson. They now face four games in eight days to see if they can finish as runners-up in the league.

Holker Old Boys completed their season with a visit from North West Counties Division One champions Hanley Town.

The Stags ended on a positive note as a brace from Mike Rushton and a goal from Chris Wraighte gave them a 3-1 victory.

Holker's 10th home win of the season was not enough to extend their campaign as they finished eighth, one point and two places outside the play-off positions.

In the West Lancashire League, there were contrasting fortunes for our Premier Division sides as Vickerstown won at Burnley United to ensure their safety but Crooklands Casuals dropped into the bottom two with a 7-0 defeat at Hesketh Bank.

Vickerstown's 2-0 win was courtesy of goals from Dave Round Junior and Sean Paterson.

Irrespective of any format changes and rumoured resignations, Cassies need a win from their last three games to move above Eagley, who have completed their fixtures.

On Tuesday, Crooklands host Garstang, while Vickerstown face a trip to a resurgent Lostock St Gerards.

In Division One, there was no Senior Cup hangover for GSK Ulverston Rangers as they drew 1-1 at champions Turton. Andy Butler put them ahead, but the home equalised late on.

Dalton United put in a tremendous effort at Lytham Town but eventually lost 4-3. They started badly, going 3-0 down but goals from Rossa Miller (2) and Joe Fidler got Dalton level before the home side scored the winner.

In Division Two, Furness Rovers had a bad start against Furness Cavaliers as goals from Marc Curtis and Aaron Holligan put Cavs ahead, but Rovers responded and levelled through Tom Clynch and Jason Corkan before Liam Shields scored a late goal to make it 3-2.

Local sides had a big say in the outcome of the title as Millom held Milnthorpe Corinthians to a 1-1 draw while CMB were thrashing Walney Island 8-0, which meant CMB are Division Two champions. Ben McDonald was the scorer for Millom.

Swarthmoor Social may have finished bottom of the table but have managed to get back-to-back victories.

After winning at Bolton County last week, they triumphed 2-1 at Leyland United on Saturday thanks to goals from Ben Mooney and Ryan Ireland.
