A SPIRITED fightback from Kirkby United was not enough to deny Vickerstown reserves as they held on to secure a place in the final of the Terry Clinton Memorial Trophy.

Wednesday’s semi-final had seen Vickerstown storm into a four-goal lead, but in the end they had to hold out for a 4-3 win.

Two goals from Scott McDonald, and one apiece from Jackson Round and Steve Brennan had seemingly put them on course for a comfortable win.

However, Andy Benson, Matty Bruce and Scott Watkinson replied for Kirkby to ensure a nervy finish to the match, with Vickerstown eventually prevailing.

Their opponents in the final will be Haverigg United, who overcame Furness Cavaliers reserves 3-0 thanks to finishes from Anthony Foster, Luke Chmiel and Richard Conway.

Vickerstown’s progress to the final goes a long way to making up for their penalty shoot-out loss to Cavaliers in the Paul Wilson Memorial Trophy quarter-finals on Bank Holiday Monday, after the match finished 3-3.

Round netted twice and Brennan added the other, with two from Alex Newby and an own goal accounting for Cavaliers’ goals. They progressed 4-2 on spot-kicks.

A hat-trick for Chris Wraighte helped Holker Old Boys reserves ease through to the last four with a 6-0 triumph over Dalton United reserves. Troy Magee, Ben Rebello and Greg Galloway got the others.

Elsewhere, Ormsgill North End progressed 4-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw with Bootle, with Mike Browne and Mike Crampton netting for Ormsgill.

In the Furness Premier League, two each from Andy Hainey and Robert Johnson helped Barrow Celtic boost their title hopes in the Rifleman’s Garage Premier Division after beating GSK Ulverston Rangers reserves 5-0. Zak Parker added the other for Celtic.

Coniston lead the way in Premier Tiles Division One as two from Phil Edmondson helped them edge out Ormsgill 3-2 on the same night. Ben Dugdale added the other for Coniston, with Connor Bone and Steve Crompton getting the replies.

The midweek Division One action also saw Hawcoat Park A and Barrow Wanderers playing out a 4-4 draw.

Two from Brandon Collins, and one apiece from Jack Rees and Frankie Ellis accounted for Hawcoat’s tally, while Andy Forristal, Nath Collet,

Ryan Docherty and Jed Wilkinson scored for Wanderers.

Jamie Cairns fired Millom reserves into the Furness Junior Cup final as they beat Hawcoat A 1-0. Their opponents will be Cartmel A.

Dalton United’s relegation to Division Two of the West Lancs League was confirmed when they suffered a 3-1 defeat at Burscough Richmond. GSK Ulverston Rangers can secure their Division One status with a win over Mill Hill St Peters tomorrow though.

In Division Two, Joe Bradbury and Reece Carlisle earned Furness Rovers a 2-2 draw with Blackpool Wren Rovers reserves, while Carl Waters got the consolation as Millom went down 4-1 to Leyland United.

Premier Division action saw Danny Keenan strike twice as Vickerstown beat Crooklands Casuals 3-1. Dave Round jnr got the other for Vickerstown, who had gone behind to a goal from Dave Goude.
