DALTON United’s disappointing start to the season in the West Lancashire League Division One did not get any better on Saturday as for the second time in three weeks they lost to a late goal against GSK Ulverston Rangers.

After a goalless opening 45 minutes, the second half started well for Dan Myles’ side when Gareth Jones put them ahead, but Rangers went in front with two goals from Matty Lawlor.

With three minutes left it seemed a Rossa Miller equaliser was going to earn Dalton a precious point, but James Pinnegor scored for Rangers to win it with a minute remaining. The result leaves Dalton rock bottom of the table and keeps Rangers in touch with the promotion places in fifth.

Hawcoat Park are the team in form and Elliott Moore loves facing Wyre Villa as his four goals earned them a 5-2 win and took his tally against them to 11 in two games. Hawcoat’s other goal came from Nathan Reid and they are third in the table.

Askam United continue to struggle after they lost another home game, going down 3-2 to Haslingden St Mary’s.

In the Premier Division both local sides lost, Vickerstown going down 3-1 at home to Garstang, with Andrew Higginson scoring, while Crooklands Casuals were beaten 3-2 at Southport Hesketh’s picturesque new ground.

In an entertaining game, the hosts took the lead following a penalty that Lewis Woodend saved but could not keep out the rebound.

With Chris Lowe playing well, Cassies levelled from the penalty spot through Kevin Edwards after Dave Mansergh was fouled.

In the second half the home side scored twice before Steve Caskie pulled a goal back and, despite a spirited effort, they were unable to find an equaliser.

In Division Two, Millom completed a league double over Swarthmoor Social as goals from Paul O’Callaghan, Carl Waters and Brian Dawson gave them a 3-0 win.

Furness Rovers were 2-0 down at Bolton County but came back to earn a point from a 2-2 draw. Joe Tindale was on target again and Scott Goulding scored the late equaliser.

Walney Island lost 5-1 at home to Stoneclough with Matthew Lockley on target, while Furness Cavaliers lost by the same score at Kendal County. Tom Heap scored their late consolation goal.

In North West Counties Division One, Holker Old Boys twice led at Cheadle Town through Billy Moss and Brad Hubbold, but had to settle for a point from a 2-2 draw.

Cartmel went back top of the North Lancashire League Premier Division with a 3-0 win over Highgrove, but second-placed Caton United are only three points behind with four games in hand. Cartmel’s goals came from Carl Airey (2) and a Jamie Chick screamer.

In the Furness Premier League, the first round of the Terry Clinton Memorial Trophy was completed as Barrow Celtic beat Millom reserves 4-2 at Newby Terrace.

Rob Johnson scored a hat-trick, with Josh Greenwood also on target, while Tony Woodburn scored both for Millom. Celtic’s reward is a trip to Haverigg United in round two.

Furness Cavaliers reserves took over at the top of the Riflemans Garage Premier Division after they beat Haverigg United 3-0 and Vickerstown reserves lost 2-1 at Kirkby United.

Cavaliers’ goals came from a Steve Morgan brace and Jamie Wright against a previously unbeaten Haverigg side who are now managed by Terry Lampitt.

Craig Armstrong has had to step down due to work and family commitments and all at the club would like to thank him for his hard work in the player/manager role.

Kirkby are up to fifth with games in hand after edging a tightly-contested game with Vickerstown.

Josh Hewson made a great save to keep the scores level before Matty Bruce and a Mark Jackson screamer put Kirkby 2-0 up.

Tony Gooding pulled a goal back from the penalty spot and Vickerstown almost equalised in the last minute, but were denied by the woodwork.

Third-placed GSK Ulverston Rangers reserves got back to winning ways with a 4-3 victory over Barrow Wanderers.

Rangers’ goals came from Dan Craig, Peter Spence, Lewis Jones and Jamie Tweddell, while Craig McIlvogue (2) and Jake Rees replied.

Holker Old Boys are finding form and they hammered Britannia 9-2, with Ben Rebello scoring five goals. Also on target were Max Wiper (2) Josh Woodend and Greg Galloway. Sean Darby and Paul Dennison replied.

Holker are joined on 15 points by Hawcoat Park reserves, who won 3-2 at Swarthmoor Social reserves. Hawcoat’s scorers were Brandon Collins (2) and Zach Walker, with Gav Jolly (penalty) and Jack Moore scoring for Swarthmoor.

After a goalless first half, Furness Rovers reserves beat Askam United reserves 3-1 thanks to a brace from Tom Clynch and one from Andrew Oxley, while Matt Plant scored Askam’s goal from the penalty spot.

Croftlands Park retained the top spot of Premier Tiles Division One but needed a stirring second-half comeback to do so.

They trailed Barrow Wanderers reserves 2-0 through goals from Chris Cloudsdale and a Nathan Collett pearler, but Matt Dean (2), Michael Webster and Chris Ivison ensured the victory.

Crooklands Casuals were below par but two goals from top-scorer Terry Anderson earned them a 2-0 win over local rivals Dalton United reserves, who deserved a point but did not take their chances.

Reigning champions Hawcoat A are not giving their title up easily and they won again, beating Holker A 3-0 with goals from Ryan Muncaster, Lee Upton and Carl Mackay.

Walney Island reserves and Vickerstown A both got their first wins of the season. Walney’s was an impressive 5-0 win at Haverigg United thanks to goals from Jon Harding (2), Bradley Speake (2) and Will Hinde. Goals from Iaian McDonald and Daniel Steele earned Vickerstown a 2-1 win over GSK A for whom Oliver Forlizzi scored.

Ormsgill North End’s 100 per cent league record remains intact and they now top Division Two by six points following a 6-0 win over Coniston reserves. Goals came from Damian Minnican (2), Si Thompson, (2), Danny Cunningham and Tom Dodd.

Bootle reserves’ third straight win moves them up to second as two goals from Kevin Hartley saw off Askam United A.

Britannia reserves have also won their last three, the latest being a 3-1 victory over Millom A. Dillon James scored a hat-trick, with Connor Treen, Owen Woodburn and Callum White all playing well.

Veteran keeper Ronnie Spiers denied Millom with some great saves, although Millom did play most of the game with 10 men and the last 15 with nine men.

Barrow Celtic A won 3-2 against Dalton United A thanks to goals from Jordan White 2 and Brendan Jamieson, while Will Oliver and Arron Deakin replied.

Walney A and Kirkby United reserves drew 2-2 at Biggar Bank. Paul Davis and Reece Carter scored for Walney, with Connor Saunders and Paul Aitken replying for Kirkby.
