GEORGIA Stanway is giving everything she has to put herself in the frame for a full England call-up.

The Barrow teenager heads to Turkey next week with the national under-19s side for the European Championship qualifiers.

Games against the hosts, plus Denmark and the Czech Republic will determine if the Young Lionesses make it to the finals in Northern Ireland in August.

While that is Stanway’s immediate international focus, the Manchester City forward – part of the Women’s Super League title-winning side last season – also has her eyes further up the ladder.

England Women’s head coach Mark Sampson – who will name his European Championship squad on Monday – has spoken of Stanway as having an outside chance of making it into the Euro 2017 squad for the tournament in the Netherlands.

Others, such as Lionesses legend Rachel Yankey, see the South Cumbrian talent as the future of the international side, and Stanway knows what her goals are in that regard.

“Being in the England team is my long-term goal, and everything I do now will input into what I want to do long-term,” said Stanway, who will line up against Turkey on Wednesday for the first of the under-19s qualifiers. “Being an England international is where I want to go.

“Doing the simple things, the basic things now, should hopefully put me in good stead for the future.

“Obviously, to get those comments was really good for me, and it will help my confidence. I’ll just keep working hard, and hopefully things will get put into place.

“It’ll be a challenging task, but it’s one that I’m willing to take on. I’ll do anything it takes now to put me in that place in the future. I’ll work however hard I need to work, so that I can achieve the long-term goal.”

Stanway has already made the step-up from under-17s – where she helped England to the World Cup last year – to under-19s. She netted a hat-trick for England against Italy in the La Manga tournament in Spain last month, and appears a first-choice when it comes to selecting the squad.

The 18-year-old is looking forward to the challenges ahead in Turkey, and said: “We’ve just played in La Manga, and it was good to get my first hat-trick for the under-19s against Italy. That was a real positive for me as an individual.

“Moving forward, we go to Turkey to play in the elite round against Turkey, Czech Republic and Denmark. That’s another tough test we’ve got ahead of us.

“We’ve just got to make sure that we prepare for those games so that we can progress to the Euro finals.”

She added: “The under-19s is definitely a step-up. Physically, it’s a lot more demanding, especially as you go from age 17 to age 19 and the physical strength and things like that come into play. Overall, I think I’m managing well. Playing with Manchester City first-team allows me to play with women rather than youth sides, which definitely helps.

“It’s maintaining that and making sure that I’m doing everything right to ensure I’m adding to the team and being the best that I can be.”
