WITH the last meaningful set of fixtures taking place nearly a full month earlier, teams were desperate to get games on.

However, Storm Eleanor, along with further heavy rain during the week, saw a lot of fixtures again fall victim to the elements.

One game that did take place was between Ormsgill North End FC and Furness Premier League Division One leaders Hawcoat Park A, with the visitors triumphing 4-2 in an entertaining match.

Ormsgill hadn’t played for seven weeks and Hawcoat Park had suffered successive defeats in their last two games.

Ormsgill’s lack of action showed straight from kick-off and Hawcoat were 1-0 up inside two minutes when Sam Fell made a great break to set up Hakan McCracken who slotted home.

The scoreline was doubled at 2-0 very quickly as goalscorer McCracken turned provider as he laid on the ball for Christian Scott who rounded the keeper and fired home.

Ormsgill tried to get back into the game when Steve Crompton had an effort cleared from danger before a Liam Cunningham thunderbolt halved the deficit for a 2-1 interval score.

The half-time break didn’t help Ormsgill and within 60 seconds of the re-start Martin Paterson waltzed through half the Ormsgill team before playing a one-two with Scott and then Paterson fed Luke Mitchell who tapped into the back of the net.

Ormsgill replied when Crompton got on the end of a through ball from Darryl Fletcher to set up a frantic end to the game. But with Ormsgill pushing for an equaliser McCracken opened them up before setting up Scott who calmly fired home to seal the points.

Hawcoat, who were coming off the back of two defeats, really dug in and put in a fine performance for the management team.

Ormsgill, like most teams, will be hoping they can now get a run of fixtures together.
