HAWCOAT Park finished off 2016 in style with a 3-1 win over Stoneclough in West Lancs Division One – but they were made to work hard for the three points.

The game kicked off late after Stoneclough were stuck in traffic, but it was the away side that started the brighter and they were one-up after 10 minutes when their centre forward coolly chipped Hawcoat keeper Sam Stephens.

Some poor decision-making and wasteful finishing by the hosts kept the visitors ahead at the break.

With the coach’s half-time team talk still ringing in their ears, Hawcoat were level when Elliot Moore tapped in after a Matty Haythorn free-kick had come back off the woodwork.

Stoneclough were starting to show signs of indiscipline and this culminated in a 70th-minute penalty, which Moore duly converted.

Hawcoat were now in control of the game, and sub Martin Paterson rounded off the day with a 20-yard screamer.

Elsewhere in the division, Askam United also signed off the year well, with a comfortable 2-0 win at home against Burscough Richmond. Their goals came courtesy of Ross Walker and Callum Rayner.

Dalton United were beaten 3-1 away at Hurst Green, with an own-goal making up their tally.

GSK Ulverston Rangers went down 9-0 at Poulton.

In the Premier Division, Crooklands Casuals suffered a 3-1 home defeat to Slyne with Hest, Dave Goude with the goal for Cassies.

Vickerstown showed that on their day they can match anyone at Park Vale as they beat high-flying Fulwood 1-0. Danny Keenan won the penalty, which he then converted.

In Division Two, Swarthmoor won 3-0 at Burscough Richmond reserves, Phil Edmondson (2) and Rikki Gallagher with the goals.

Furness Rovers also picked up three points on the road as they beat Coppull reserves 4-1. Josh Jones (2), Joe Tindale and Liam Shields netted.

Furness Cavaliers were beaten 1-0 at home by Garstang reserves. A late penalty could have rescued a point for the hosts, but the spot-kick was missed.

Walney Island were beaten 7-0 by Blackpool Wren Rovers reserves and Millom drew 1-1 with Euxton Villa reserves thanks to a Carl Waters goal – the 600th of his career.

In the Riflemans Garage Furness Premier Division, there were a couple of results which show the league could be wide open this season.

Leaders Hawcoat reserves suffered a 2-1 defeat at Croftlands, wher Mike Webster and Ben Mooney scored for the home side. Craig Muncaster bagged the Hawcoat reply.

Barrow Celtic also fell to a loss as they were beaten 4-2 at home by Bootle, Connor Smith with both Celtic’s goals. Steve Pritt (2) Aaron Bradley and Liam Wilson scored for a resurgent Bootle.

Haverigg beat Millom reserves 3-2, John Chmiel (2) and Anthony Foster weighed in for Haverigg, while Chris Wood got both goals for Millom.

Holker Old Boys reserves defeated GSK Ulverston Rangers reserves 4-1, Paul Southward taking the match ball home after his hat-trick, while Josh Woodend claimed the other goal. Tyler Spence got GSK's reply.

Britannia and Vickerstown reserves played out a 2-2 draw at Redwaters. Andy Whiteford and Cameron Clark scored for The Brit, while Jackson Round got both goals for Vickerstown.

Premier Tiles Division One action saw Dalton United reserves defeated 4-2 by Askam United reserves. Dec Bowman, Danny Eccles, Mike Shepherd and Keir Shepherd all got on the scoresheet for Askam. Ben Wright scored both goals for Dalton.

Ormsgill beat Barrow Celtic reserves 7-0. Tom Dodd helped himself to a hat-trick, Nath Cloudsdale grabbed two and Carl Gill and Paul Williams claimed one apiece.

In Division Two, Bootle reserves were beaten 4-3 at home by FC Barrow Island. Paul Fleming (2), Sam Shields and Jonny O’Halloran were all on the scoresheet for the Island side.

Kirkby reserves beat Britannia reserves 7-0, with goals coming from Dan Marshall (2), Danny Smith (2), Scott Watkinson (2) and Paul Cleasby.

Walney Island A drew 1-1 with Bridge United, Sam Davies scored for Bridge.

In the Furness Junior Cup, Coniston reserves hosted Swarthmoor reserves and it is Swarthmoor who are in the hat for the next round as they won 3-1, thanks to goals from Craig Crawford, Jack Moore and Liam Matthews.

Holler Old Boys drew 2-2 with Stockport Town in North West Counties Division One. Ben Rebello and JP Stanway scored the goals for Holker as they twice came from behind.
