MILLOM A celebrated being crowned Furness Premier League Division Two champions, despite defeat to Dalton United A in their last game of the season.

Millom claimed the crown after finishing the 16-match campaign four points clear of Bridge United, with Dalton in a strong position to finish third after their Friday night triumph.

The Hannah Park side ensured they would take the title with their 4-2 success at Bridge United in their previous game, but were presented with the silverware following the Dalton game on Friday night.

Jonny While scored a brace for Dalton in their 4-1 success at Devonshire Road, with George Akred and Keith Holmes also on target.

After a busy week of fixtures, Saturday saw some teams playing their fourth game in eight days as they try to claw back the ground lost earlier on in the year due to the bad weather.

Barrow Celtic moved into second place in the Furness Premier Division with a fine 2-0 win against Haverigg United. Andy Hainey and Rob Johnson scored.

Haverigg threw everything they could at the Celtic goal, but had one of those days when the ball would not go in.

Millom reserves drew 3-3 with Furness Cavaliers reserves. Jordan Brumby, Josh Keen and Joe Myers scored for Millom, while Matt Hargreaves bagged a hat trick for a spirited Cavaliers side who had a bare 11 to start the game and had to play the last 30 minutes with 10 men after Tom Jackson went off injured. Stand-in goalkeeper James McGoldrick had an eventful afternoon for Cavs.

Britannia picked up three points after defeating Bootle 2-1 at Redwaters. Chris Boardley and Luke Vandome scored the Brits’ goals.

Vickerstown reserves beat Swarthmoor reserves 4-2. Swarthmoor led twice through Craig Crawford and Ozzy Smith, but Vickerstown fought back and a Mark Johnson overhead kick was the pick of the goals.

Mike Adams, Scott McDonald and Jackson Round also netted in what was a good game, well refereed by Lee Wadsworth.

In Division One, Barrow Wanderers moved up to fourth with a 5-4 home victory over Holker Old Boys A.

Ryan Docherty helped himself to a hat-trick, while Daz Hartle and Ross Shields also scored. Connor Erdis (2), Elliot Maxfield and Rob Parker replied for Holker.

Crooklands Casuals drew 1-1 with Ormsgill North End. Paul Fleming put Ormsgill ahead after five minutes, but they could not capitalise and were pegged back for a share of the points.

In the Horne Cup, Walney Island A beat Britannia reserves 3-2. Brad Speake, Harry Austin and George Scott scored for Walney, while Charlie Shaw and Josh Wilcock fired home for the Brit.

Bridge United had a resounding 10-0 win over FC Barrow Island. Reece Craig (3), Marcus Robinson (2), Lee Harkin, John Ashworth, Brad Lewis, Jason Borwick and an own goal made up the rout.

Division Two action saw Kirkby United reserves defeated 4-1 by Coniston reserves. Lee Tracey netted for Kirkby.

In the West Lancashire League, a heavily-depleted Vickerstown side put in a resounding performance at Garstang in the Premier Division, but eventually lost 1-0. Danny Cummings was outstanding at the heart of the defence.

In Division One, the Dalton v Stoneclough game was postponed due to the Stoneclough manager falling seriously ill on Friday night. The correct decision was made and all wish him a speedy recovery.

Dalton instead took on Hawcoat Park in a friendly at Railway Meadow.

GSK Ulverston Rangers gave their survival hopes a shot in the arm with a 5-1 win against Mill Hill St Peters. Andy Whiteford (3) and Jack Gardner (2) scored for GSK.

There were mixed results in Division Two. Millom were missing a hatful of player and were beaten 5-1 by Blackpool Wren Rovers. Steve Grieve scored the Millom goal.

Walney were beaten 4-3 at Euxton Villa reserves. James Bailey, Kieran Sollaway and Hewitson scored for Walney, who were cruelly beaten by a 91st-minute goal.

Swarthmoor lost 5-1 to a strong Thornton Cleveleys reserves, Josh Price scoring the consolation goal.

There was better news for Furness Cavaliers as they beat third-placed Croston Sports. Youngster Nathan Shaw scored two, while Ryan Rogers and Tom Harris finished off the scoring.

Furness Rovers also had a good day as they beat Garstang reserves 3-2. Joe Tindale, Josh Jones and Tyler Wood shared the goal-scoring duties.

Holker hosted Sandbach and were beaten 1-0, a result which saw Sandbach reach the North West Counties Division One play-offs.
