FURNESS Cavaliers hosted Millom in the West Lancs Second Division and ex-Barrow AFC Player Carl Waters made the difference in a 5-2 win which keeps Millom’s season bouncing along.

Cavs started the brighter when Tom Heap opened the scoring after 10 mins after a great ball from Kyle Delves, moments later Carl Waters latched onto a through ball from Ian Swarbrick and after his first shot was saved he slotted home from an acute angle.

On the half hour mark Waters saw the game off with two goals in quick succession, firstly he latched on to a poor clearance and he curled the ball home from 20 yards, minutes later he finished with aplomb after good work from Drew Postlethwaite to finish off a clinical first half hat-trick and make the half time scoreline 3-1. Cavs did finish the half strongly and a superb reflex save kept the two-goal cushion in place.

Cavs came out spirited in the second half but when they were caught in possession and a long range ferocious effort from Joel Barker was parried into the path of Drew Postlethwaite who put Millom 4-1 up, the same player the rattled the bar before Waters set up Danny Pattinson to make it 5-1. Cavs shuffled their pack and really went in search of a goal and they did have the ball in the back of the net only for the referee to disallow it for foul play.

A late deflected Matt Hargreaves free kick for Cavs gave them their second goal but the scoreline remained 5-2 and with Waters in this sort of form it’s easy to see why Millom have only tasted league defeats on a couple of occasions this season.
