VETERAN marksman Dave Mansergh believes he still has a few seasons left in his legs.

Although he may be 35, the Crooklands Casuals frontman has no plans of retiring - much to the woe of defences in the West Lancs Premier League.

Vickerstown, though, due to face Cassies tomorrow weather permitting, will be able to breath a huge sigh of relief.

Mansergh will be watching the derby tussle from the sidelines at Longlands Park, serving a one-match ban after 'taking the law into his own hands' against Longridge and picking up a second yellow.

Despite his enforced absence Mansergh, with Cassies for some 10 seasons, is keen to get back into action and among the goals for his club having notched seven so far.

Talking about his dismissal, he said: "I got two yellow cards, unfortunately I took the law into my own hands and ended up paying the price, I am sitting it out on Saturday, and am waiting for my next game."

Although never setting personal targets Mansergh will hope to hit the back of the net around 20 times in cup and league competitions in 2015/15.

Crooklands have missed two weeks of action because of the atrocious weather conditions and Mansergh is keeping his fingers crossed the deluge abates at the weekend so the game can go ahead, but he is wary of the damage the rain may have already done to the playing surface beforehand.

"It hasn't stopped really," he said. "You don't want to go too many weeks without a game at this time of the season, it is important you keep your match fitness and sharpness up. It is more difficult the longer you have off to then get some consistency in your performances."

Like Crooklands, Vickerstown - who finished fourth in the table last season - are struggling, yet despite their lowly positions Mansergh is anticipating a tough encounter.

Cassies, as other clubs in the area, have been affected by the introduction of new shift patterns at BAE Systems. It has meant losing a number of key players because of work. Holidays, especially at the start of the season in August, and injuries has also accounted for player problems.

"It is a huge game," said Mansergh, who has had spells with Barrow AFC, Dalton United, and Kirkham and Wesham during what has been an illustrious career.

He is fully focused on the fortunes of Cassies as they bid to get away from the wrong end of the table and he added: "Obviously we have had a difficult start to the season, we lost seven out of the first eight but we have picked up in form over the last five or six games.

"We have had a couple of draws away at Garstang and Slyne and then we had two wins against Lostock and Eagley. Performances have improved a lot we just need to keep that momentum now and start to get a few points on the board, starting with the local derby.

"They are down there as well, and they are sort of struggling. I think they are in a similar position with availability, they are struggling to get the same team out every week, which we are, but we need to try and win to move us up."

He added: "The table is really split into three at the minute, you have got the top six, you have six down to 10 and then everyone else underneath. We need to close that gap and try and get back in the mix of mid-table."

While Mansergh is satisfied by his return of goals so far he is keen to improve on his tally of seven and said: "Hopefully I can keep adding to that and try and push us up the league.

"I am getting a bit older now, and it is getting a bit difficult, but I am still happy playing, still fit enough.

"I think whatever I do I will play for another few years at least. As long as I am enjoying it I will keep playing and as long as I am contributing and I keep getting picked I will still be there."

The player admits he has no idea of the total number of goals he has scored during his career adding: I don't keep records I wouldn't have a clue how many I have got for various clubs. I aim for maybe 15 or 20 every year, maybe 15 in the league and a few in the cups. I am not a massive prolific scorer."

Mansergh and team-mate Glyn Caine have taken on a new venture at Crooklands, running the under-sevens.

He is undertaking level one coaching and added: "We are enjoying it at the minute."
