DALTON United ground out a much-needed but well deserved win at home to Lytham Town in the West Lancashire League Division One on Saturday.

After a goalless first half, Dalton took the lead in the 50th minute through a Frazer Shand header and had several more chances to increase their lead before the visitors equalised with 20 minutes remaining.

Despite this setback Dalton responded well and two goals in the last 10 minutes from Gareth Jones looked to have made the game safe. However a quick response from Lytham ensured a nervy last few minutes until Dalton could celebrate a 3-2 victory.

It was a good win for Dalton and a fair reward for the hard work the players put in. They are still bottom of the table, but there is a little bit of hope now that they can actually get out of trouble.

The home side converted all five penalties and Cassies saw one hit the post so it ended 5-3. It was an excellent cup tie that could have gone either way. In the Premier Division Danny Keenan converted two penalties for Vickerstown but they went down 6-2 at leaders Fulwood Amateurs.
