HAWCOAT Park are still yet to taste defeat in the West Lancs League Division One, but they were pushed all the way by a spirited Dalton United in the big local derby at Railway Meadow.

The first half was a cagey affair with very few clear cut chances. Hawcoat enjoyed the bulk of possession but it wasn’t until the introduction of substitute Jake Rees in the second half that the game came to life.

Danny Leech hit the post for Dalton and it looked as if they were in the ascendancy, but on 70 minutes Zach Walker broke away for Hawcoat and delivered the ball for Rees to coolly finish. The game then opened up but both sides were guilty of spurning good chances. Rees was on hand in the 90th minute to poke the ball home after a goal-mouth scramble to make the final score 2-0 to Hawcoat.

It was a good day for our local sides in the West Lancs Premier Division as Crooklands came from 2-0 down to beat Lostock St Gerards 3-2 at Longlands. Tom Heywood converted a penalty on the hour mark to get Cassies back into the game but it was the introduction of 16-year-old Ben Phizacklea that turned the game around as he took over corner-taking duties and scored directly from two of them. The winner came in the 88th minute after the home side had hit the bar on no fewer than three occasions.

At Park Vale Vickerstown beat Thornton Cleveleys 4-3, Danny Keenan taking the match ball home after his three goals and Jordan Dix getting among the goals to continue his tremendous start to the season.

In a game that swung one way to another Vickertsown were 2-0 up before being pegged back to 2-2, but Keenan came to the fore with two goals in the last 20 minutes to secure the three points.

Going a goal down didn’t bother Cavs as they hit back with goals from Tom Heap and Kyle Delves to take all three points.

Walney Island gained another point in a good performance as they drew 1-1 with Croston Sports on Tummerhill. Matt Carr scored for the islanders who have now drawn with the teams sitting first and second in the table which belies their current standing. Millom and Furness Rovers both had away games postponed.

In the North West Counties Holker Old Boys drew 1-1 at Alsager Town, Craig Redhead netting the goal.
