THIS is a good time to be playing your football at Hawcoat Park.

The Maroons' first, second and third teams are all riding high in their respective divisions with the season now in full swing.

After missing out on promotion last season, Hawcoat's first team have begun the West Lancs Division One season with all guns blazing.

A terrific start saw them pick up the August team-of-the-month award, and they have carried that momentum into the autumn and lie in second place – two points behind Poulton, but with a game in hand.

Hawcoat have already shown they are a match for the leaders, having beaten them 1-0 last week thanks to Ollie Jackson's brilliant 55th-minute strike.

If they win their game in hand at Haslingden St Mary's tomorrow, Park will be top of the tree and in great shape to launch a title push.

Hawcoat reserves are already at the summit of their division, leading the Furness Premier Division ahead of tomorrow's home game against GSK Ulverston Rangers reserves.

And Park thirds have won four their opening five matches in Division One, with a home game against bottom side Askam United reserves next up for them, which is likely to bring them three more points and enable them to keep the pressure on leaders Coniston.

There is a lot of cup action taking place for West Lancs League clubs tomorrow.

Furness Cavaliers, Furness Rovers, Millom, Swarthmoor and Walney Island all have home games in the Challenge Cup first round.

Millom will be upbeat about their chances as they face Division Two strugglers Thornton Cleveleys reserves for the second time in the space of seven days.

Last Saturday's league match saw the evergreen Carl Waters smash four goals in a 5-4 victory in the league.

Askam entertain Wyre Villa in the Presidents Cup, fresh from their 2-1 Lancashire Amateur Shield derby victory over Cavs, when goals from Huw Barton and Ross Walker did the job.

Vickerstown face a rearranged Lancashire Amateur Shield tie at home to Lytham St Annes, while Crooklands Casuals have a mid-table match-up with Turton at Longlands Park, Cassies looking to tighten things up at the back after losing 5-3 at home to Southport Hesketh last time out.

Another team with work to do on their defence on the training ground are Holker Old Boys, who conceded three late goals to lose 5-2 at home to Cheadle Town in North West Counties Division One last Saturday.

The Stags turn their attentions to knockout action tomorrow, as they host Ashton Town in round one of the Reusch Cup.
