BARROW Celtic kept up their 100 per cent record in the Furness Premier League with a comprehensive 6-0 victory over Furness Cavaliers Reserves at Newby Terrace.

They moved to the top of the table thanks to goals from Robert Johnson, two from Connor Smith and an Andrew Hainey hat-trick.

Cavaliers didn’t really put the Celtic defence under any serious pressure and a Matty Gregg effort that hit the bar was the closest they came to scoring.

Hainey opened the scoring with a tap-in at the back post. Connor Smith rose highest from a corner to head in the second, and Rob Johnson reacted quickest after a goalmouth scramble to poke home the third.

Hainey’s second came after a neat run around the keeper. Smith saw another header go in and with Celtic 5-0 up Hainey finished off the job after another fantastic run saw him beat a couple of players before unleashing a thunderbolt into the top corner.

Elsewhere in the league Vickerstown Res were involved in a 5-4 scoreline for the second week running, this time though they were beaten by Britannia. In a game for defences to forget, Ian Rogers, Lee Miller, Jackson Round and Craig May scored for Vickerstown.

Goals from Chris Boardley, Sean Darby and an Andrew Whiteford hat-trick were the Britannia scorers. Whiteford completed his hat-trick in the last minute when his penalty was saved by Vickerstown keeper Josh Tranter and he was first to the ball to fire home the rebound.

Croftlands won 3-0 at home to Swarthmoor Social Res. The goals came from Paul Hartley, Matt Dean and a Macaulay Dixon free-kick from inside his own half.

Hawcoat Park Res and Millom Res played out a high scoring game at Hawcoat Park. The home side ran out 6-2 winners thanks to goals from Mike Melia, Jake Rees, Luke Mitchell, Brandon Collins, Ben Stoker and Chris Sloan. Chris Wood scored both of Millom’s goals.

Holker Old Boys Res defeated Walney Island Res 6-0. Holker’s goals came from JP Stanway, Troy Magee, Jake Carter (2) and Jack Pedley (2).

GSK Ulverston Ranger Res beat Kirkby 2-1 at Priory Road. The game was in the balance at 1-1 thanks to goals from Pinnegor for GSK and Andrew Benson for Kirkby. Then in time added on up popped Sharp to give GSK all three points and leave Kirkby ruing their missed chances.

In the North West Counties first division Holker travelled to Silsden and must have been still on the bus as they conceded two goals in the first eight minutes. Dave Swarbrick halved the deficit before half-time.

Holker were 3-1 down early in the second half until Swarbrick again got Holker back in the game but it wasn’t enough and the game finished 3-2.

In the West Lancs Premier League a depleted Vickerstown travelled to Euxton Villa and put in a great shift to come away with a point following a 0-0 draw. Crooklands Casuals hosted newly-promoted Tempest to Longlands and their good start hit the buffers as they were defeated 2-1. Tempest took the lead and looked the livelier side. Steve Caskie equalised for the home side but a goal two minutes after half-time put Tempest ahead and they always looked dangerous on the break as Crooklands pressed forward looking for a goal.

In the 90th minute Crooklands were thrown a lifeline as Dave Mansergh was brought down for a penalty. Up stepped Tom Heywood but his shot was well saved by the Tempest keeper.

It wasn’t a good day for the area’s teams in Division One as a much changed Dalton team were beaten 7-2 at home to Lytham Town. Ryan Barker scored in the first half for Dalton and at half-time they were 2-1 behind, but a second half collapse saw Dalton concede a further five goals. Gareth Jones fired in a consolation penalty for Dalton’s second goal.

Askam travelled to Haslingden and were on the wrong end of a 5-0 scoreline.

GSK Ulverston Rangers were also on the road and they were beaten by Wyre Villa 6-2. Josh Cronin and Dan Cooper put GSK 2-0 up at half-time but Wyre Villa hit six in the second half.

In Division Two Walney Island hosted Euxton Villa res and put in another good performance to earn a 0-0 draw. They were unlucky not to be ahead after a series of missed chances in the first half.

In the second half they had player-manager Steve McCullough to thank after the makeshift keeper made some outstanding saves.

Millom moved up to fourth in the table thanks to a 6-2 home win over Burscough Richmond Res.

Carl Waters hit a hat-trick and Ben McDonald, Stuart Pattinson and Danny Pattinson were also on target.

Swarthmoor were beaten 5-4 at home to Fulwood Amateurs Res. Sean Nicholson, Phil Edmondson and two from Luke Dixon were Swarthmoor’s scorers.

Furness Rovers picked up three points after a good 2-0 home win against Kendal County. Steve Crompton put Rovers 1-0 up after only two minutes and Hacken McCracken doubled the lead on the half hour mark.

Furness Cavaliers drew 3-3 with Thornton Cleveleys Res at Rampside Road. Thornton took the lead from a set piece but Cavaliers responded well and took a 3-1 lead thanks to Lee Simpson and two from the in-form Kyle Delves who was unfortunate not to have a first half hat-trick.

Thornton fought back in the second half and deserved their two goals.
