PROSPECTIVE new football officials can take advantage of a two-day course in Barrow this summer.

The Lancashire FA will be delivering a full FA Referee Course at Furness Academy on July 16 and 17.

The course will run from 9.30am until 3.30pm on both days and will be delivered by ex-Football League referee Jim Parker.

Over the two days, participants partake in a largely practical course with lots of opportunities to learn the laws of the game and put them into practice.

The course normally costs £135 per candidate – but the LFA, local leagues, the Furness District FA and the Furness Referees’ Society have teamed up to subsidise the cost significantly.

The Barrow and District Junior Football League are backing one of their own referees to progress on to the LFA’s Young Potential programme.

Sam Wager, who officiated the Ulverston Hospitals Cup Under-12s final at Holker Street, has been given £100 in funding towards taking part.
