FURNESS Rovers have a cup double in their sights after a successful week of knockout action.

The Training Ground club have sides in both the Furness Senior and Junior Cup finals at Holker Street next week.

Barrow AFC have given over their stadium for a range of finals over the coming week, with Rovers hoping to complete the Travis Perkins double.

On Tuesday, the Furness Junior Cup sees their reserves side, from the Riflemans Garage Furness Premier Division, take on new Premier Tiles Division One champions Croftlands Park.

Rovers reserves reached the final with a 3-1 win over Britannia reserves in midweek, while Croftlands hammered Millom reserves 5-0.

Croftlands are the holders, while Rovers were runners-up in 2011.

The Senior Cup final on Thursday pits two West Lancashire League sides, GSK Ulverston Rangers, from Division One, and Furness Rovers, from Division Two, against each other.

Rovers thrashed fellow West Lancs side Furness Cavaliers 5-0 on Tuesday to book their place, while Rangers produced a tense penalty shootout victory over FPL outfit Holker Old Boys reserves.

With Bootle’s two-year reign soon to be over, in terms of recent history it will be a new name on the trophy.

The nearest both sides have come is being beaten finalists, Rangers in 2009 and Rovers in 2011.

The first FPL final of the season takes place on Monday at Crooklands Casuals, when Hawcoat Park reserves play Barrow Celtic in the Terry Clinton Memorial Trophy.

In recent years, the final has been played at Dalton United, but Terry’s family have strong links at Crooklands as well. Derek was a founder member and David coaches the under-nines and the club are honoured to host the game.

Hawcoat won the trophy in 2007 as BAE Systems and in 2000, when they were still called Vickers Sports Club. The nearest Celtic have come to claiming it was in 2014 when they were runners-up.

In the Furness Premier League, divisions one and two have been won by Croftlands and Ormsgill North End respectively, but the Premier Division title race is still very open.

In midweek, the top three sides won. Kirkby United beat Furness Rovers reserves 4-0, Vickerston reserves defeated Barrow Wanderers 5-0 and Hawcoat Park reserves saw off Britannia 4-1.

GSK Ulverston Rangers reserves drop to fourth after being held to a 1-1 draw by Furness Cavaliers reserves.

Tomorrow the key game will be at Park Vale as Vickerstown host Ulverston.

At the foot of the table, Millom reserves’ revival continued as they won 4-3 at Swarthmoor Reserves.

In the West Lancs Premier Division, Crooklands Casuals enjoyed a victory over Southport Hesketh last week and will be confident ahead of games against Burnley United tomorrow and at Lostock St Gerards on Monday.

Vickerstown have trips to Thornton Cleveleys and Coppull United over the weekend.

Hawcoat Park won the Division One derby with Dalton United in midweek, but face a tough final game at home to Tempest United tomorrow.

Ulverston host Burscough Richmond then travel to Lytham Town on Monday, while Dalton United are scheduled to visit Mill Hill St Peters tomorrow.

Millom host title-chasing CMB in Division Two on the back of reaching the Challenge Cup final.

A brace from Jamie Pattinson and one from brother Danny gave Millom a 3-1 victory over Walney Island on Tuesday.

They will face Bolton County in the final, who are the opposition for Swarthmoor Social tomorrow. Swarthmoor visited Milnthorpe Corinthians in midweek and went down 8-3.

Walney and Cavaliers meet again on Tuesday at Rampside Road after both sides lost in semi-finals in midweek. They met at Tummerhill last Saturday in a league fixture, with a Dan Turner goal securing the points for Walney.

Cartmel have reached two cup finals this season and the first is tomorrow when they face Milnthorpe Corinthians in the Westmorland Senior Cup at Kendal Town. They warmed up in midweek with a 5-1 league win over Bentham. The second is next Friday when they meet Highgrove in the Eric Wilson Senior Cup.

Holker Old Boys lost 4-1 at Bacup Borough on Monday and have another tricky away game tomorrow at Litherland REMYCA. With title-chasing Hanley Town visiting Rakesmoor next Saturday, the Stags will be desperate to win tomorrow to keep their play-off hopes alive, with their hosts in the same predicament.

Holker are sixth – the last play-off spot – and Litherland seventh, just a point behind. While a draw would end Litherland’s hopes, it would open the door for Cheadle Town or Bacup as well.
