TWO Furness Premier League sides are looking to claim a prized West Lancs scalp in the cup tomorrow.

Kirkby United travel tro Furness Rovers in the Furness Senior Cup in good form, having moved into the top five in the FPL Premier Division and with games in hand on all the teams above them.

Rovers will obviously start as favourites on their Training Ground pitch and lying in mid-table in the West Lancs Division Two table, but they should not underestimate the threat of the villagers.

Kirkby showed off their attacking ability last weekend to inflict second-placed Vickersown reserves' first defeat of the league campaign.

Goals from Matty Bruce and Mark Jackson were enough to earn Kirkby three points, despite a fightback from Vickerstown, which saw Tony Gooding score from the spot and the woodwork deny them a last-minute leveller.

Rovers will also go into the fixture in good heart after coming back from 2-0 down at Bolton County last time out to earn a 2-2 draw thanks to Joe Tindale and a late Scott Goulding equaliser.

Haverigg United are the other FPL Premier Division team looking to cause a shock in the Senior Cup, with GSK Ulverston Rangers the visitors.

United have had a mixed start to their FPL campaign, lying in mid-table and having lost 3-0 last time out to new division leaders Furness Cavaliers reserves.

The pressure will be firmly off Haverigg's shoulders tomorrow though, as they lock horns with a Rangers outfit who have enjoyed a decent start to their West Lancs first division campaign.

GSK broke Dalton United hearts last weekend when James Pinnegor scored a last-gasp winner in a 3-2 derby victory at Railway Meadow, and they will travel round the Duddon Estuary full of confidence.

There is also cup action in the Lancashire Amateur Shield as two of the area's West Lancs League sides look to make progress in this prestigious competition.

Premier Division outfit Vickerstown can put their testing start to the league season to one side as they entertain Tempest United at Park Vale.

Town lost 3-1 at home to Garstang in the league last weekend and will be desperate to bounce back from that setback and get a win under their belts. But with their opponents lying second in the Division One table, it will be a testing 90 minutes for Dave Round's men.

Hawcoat Park have enjoyed a strong start to the campaign in Division One lying in third place, just three points behind leaders Burscough Richmond. Park demolished Wyre Villa 5-2 last week, with Elliott Moore banging in four goals. If Moore has his shooting boots on again and Park perform to the levels thay have been doing for the most part this term, then top-flight Blackpool Wren Rovers will be in for a very difficult examination.
