FURNESS Cavaliers’ good start to their league campaign came unstuck at Tummerhill against Walney Island who moved up five places thanks to the 6-1 win.

A great team performance saw Walney dominate the game from start to finish. The home side took the lead after good work from Keiron Sollaway created the chance for Mike Carr to slot the ball home.

Five minutes later Mitchell Wright scored after more good work from Sollaway. Wright then made it 3-0 five minutes before the interval with another good finish.

Before the half-time whistle Cavs were thrown a lifeline as Aaron Holligan made the most of a defensive mix-up and he made no mistake.

The second half was much the same as the first with Sollaway wreaking havoc at will. Carr grabbed his second goal on 49 minutes to make the scoreline 4-1 and then man of the match Sollaway finally got in on the act to extend the lead further. Sub Brad Jones finished off the scoring for Walney in the 82nd minute to give the home side a fine 6-1 victory.

In the Furness Senior Cup, Barrow Celtic beat Barrow Wanderers 4-3. Goals for Celtic came courtesy of Rob Johnson (2) Jack Dulgnan and Sean Sweeney, with Brad Hamilton, Ross Shields and Andrew Forristal replying for Wanderers.

Crooklands Casuals Res were beaten 9-0 by higher league opposition in the form of Holker Old Boys Res. Holker’s goals came from Billy Moss (2) Brad Hubbold (2) Robbie Wallace (2) Josh Woodend, Jamie Cowan and veteran striker Paul Southward.

The shock of the round came from Railway Meadow as Premier Division champions Kirkby were knocked out on penalties by First Division Dalton United Res. Kirkby’s goals came from Lee Tracey and Matty Bruce. Dalton had Frazer Shand and Danny Leech to thank for taking the game to pens where Dalton goalkeeper Keith Holmes proved to be the match-winner with a couple of great saves, in a game well marshalled by ref Darren Gardner.

In the Lancashire Amateur Shield it wasn’t a great day for our local sides as Crooklands Casuals travelled to Daten and were beaten 3-1. Dave Mansergh was on target for Cassies in a game that could have gone either way.

Hawcoat Park were beaten on penalties by AFC Monton after drawing 1-1 thanks to an Elliot Moore strike.

Millom were also beaten on pens after drawing 2-2 away to Slyne with Hest. Carl Waters scoring with the last kick of the 90 minutes to give Millom a lifeline but they were cruelly beaten 7-6.

GSK Ulverston Rangers made it through to the next round with a walkover victory after Golbourne Sports decided not to make the trip.

In the West Lancs Premier Division Vickerstown had a fantastic 4-1 home win against Coppull United. Danny Keenan hit his second hat trick on the trot and Rob Bruce also found the net to move Vickerstown up to ninth in the table.

In the First Division Askam were beaten 2-0 at home by Lytham Town and Dalton United went down 4-0 away to CMB.

In Division Two Furness Rovers beat Euxton Villa Res 2-1. Jordan Wood and Scott Goulding grabbed the goals in a good away win for Rovers.

Furness Premier League action saw Bootle and Vickerstown Res play out a 2-2 draw at Millholme. Steve Pritt bagged two goals for Bootle, with Scott McDonald and Dave Jepson replying for Vickerstown.

Hawcoat Park moved to the top of the table with a resounding 9-1 win over Britannia. Carl Mackay (3), Sam Jefferson (2), Ben Stoker (2) and Mike Wilkes (2) sharing goal-scoring duties. Adam Carswell scored Britannia’s consolation.

Furness Rovers Res also had a 9-1 win, with Swarthmoor on the wrong end of a great performance by Rovers who had Andy Oxley (3) Jamie Edgley (3) Adam Spence (2) and Joe Loughlin to thank for their goals.

Whilst their first teams battled it out at Tummerhill, Furness Cavs Res and Walney Res shared seven goals as Walney ran out 4-3 winners. Seth Storey, Danny Turner and Connor Carson (two penalties) all scored for Walney after Jamie Wright Richie Wilkes and debutant Josh Eaton had put Cavs 3-1 ahead.

Haverigg were beaten 4-3 at home by GSK Res. Anthony Foster, Steven Robinson and John Chmiel scored for Haverigg, but two goals in the last two minutes, the last goal a penalty, saw GSK take all three points. Matty Lawlor, Reis Sharp (2) and Isaac Prosser were the scorers.

In the First Division Hawcoat Park A beat Haverigg United Res 7-0, with goals from Ryan Muncaster (3), Craig Muncaster (2) Sam Hayes and Jack Wilson.

Holker Old Boys A beat Barrow Celtic Res 6-2. Josh Haney (2), Steve Forbes (2), Phil Chesworth, Ian Leeming and Squire scored for Holker, while Chris Treen got both Celtic’s goals.

Vickerstown A went down 3-1 at home to Coniston. Iain McDonald scored for Vickerstown.

Ormsgill bounced back from last week’s defeat to beat Askam United Res 12-1.

In the second Division FC Barrow Island had a fine 7-5 win against Bridge United. Tyler Silver, Alec Coskin, Marcus Robinson, Jordan White and Reece Craig scored for Bridge but Sam Shields (4) Chris Corran, Gary Rowlands and Ronnie Crompton made sure of the points for Barrow Island.

Millom A beat Bootle Res 5-2 with goals from Josh Keen (3), Joe Myers and Brian Shaw. Alfie Bailey and Steven Fell scored for Bootle.

Coniston Res beat Kirkby Res 3-2 and Dalton United A beat Walney Island A 4-2.

Swarthmoor were beaten by Garstang Res 3-1, with Graham Wilcox scoring a penalty for Swarthmoor.

Holker Old Boys drew 2-2 away to Stockport Town in the North West Counties League. One-time Barrow AFC player Dave Swarbrick and JP Stanway were on target for Holker.
