FURNESS Cavaliers have enjoyed a decent start to the season and that continued with a nail-biting derby victory over Furness Rovers.

Cavaliers take on Thornton Cleveleys Reserves in the West Lancs League Division Two tomorrow, fresh from a 3-2 victory over Rovers at Rampside Road.

The derby only got the go-ahead after some hard work by a number of Cavaliers players got the pitch playable following horrendous downpours earlier in the day - and Cavs were rewarded with all three points.

Kyle Delves put Cavs ahead with a stunning free-kick on ten minutes. Tom Heap put them 2-0 up after the break following good work by Marc Curtis.

Rovers found a way back into the game through a Steve Crompton header, but that didn’t last long and after a defensive mix-up, Ryan Rogers put Cavs 3-1 ahead.

Crompton grabbed his second header of the game, and with the the score now 3-2 the final 15 minutes were a tense affair.

Swarthmoor travelled to Kendal County and were beaten 2-1 after conceding a last-minute goal for the second time in three days. Phil Edmondson netted for Swarthmoor.

Dalton were in action in West Lancs Leaguie Division One in midweek and they had a 4-3 win against Milnthorpe Corinthians.

Ryan Barker, Gareth Jones, Jonathan While and Joe Fiddler were all on target for Dalton.

Crooklands continued their good start in the West Lancs League Premier Division with a 3-2 win against Whitehaven.

Dave Goude opened the scoring, and the in-form Dave Mansergh fired home the other two.

Holker Old Boys hosted AFC Blackpool in the North West Counties first division and suffered a 1-0 defeat.

Wednesday saw an interesting derby in the West Lancs Division One between Askam and Hawcoat Park finish with honours even at the final whistle with the score 0-0. Both teams have made good starts to their league campaigns.

In the Furness Premier League Barrow Celtic beat a below-par Britannia 7-1. Rob Johnson bagged five, with Thomas Pavett and Connor Smith scoring the other two. Liam Holmes replied for Britannia.

Furness Rovers Reserves drew 1-1 with Walney Island Reserves. Reece Carlisle scored for Rovers and Paul Honeyman replied for the Islanders.

GSK Ulverston Rangers and Croftlands also played out a 1-1 draw. Sam Pinnegor scored for GSK and Ben Mooney for Croftlands.

Holker Old Boys Reserves beat Hawcoat Park Reserves 3-2 at Rakesmoor. Holker's goals came from JP Stanway, James Bonner and an own goal. Ben Stoker and Jake Stockdale netted for the visitors. Kirkby drew 2-2 with a resurgent Haverigg. Matty Bruce and Tom Wildgoose scored for the reigning champions. Steven Robinson and Daniel Munroe replied for Haverigg.

Millom Reserves beat Bootle 1-0 thanks to an Otis Holliday goal. Swarthmoor Reserves hosted Vickerstown Reserves and it was the visitors, with goals from Brad Palfreyman, Jackson Round and Connor Robinson, who ran out 3-2 winners. The home side's goals were scored by Bowes and Price.
