GOALKEEPING rising star Curtis Anderson has been named in the England Under-17s squad for next month's World Cup.

The Ulverston teenager, on the books at Premier League big guns Manchester City – for whom he signed for a £15,000 fee from Blackpool when he was only 11 – is part of coach Steve Cooper's 21-strong group to make the trip to India.

Expressing his joy on Twitter, he said: “Honoured to be called up to represent my country at a World Cup! It's going to be an amazing experience! #England”

Anderson has been part of the England set-up for the past two years, playing at under-15s, under-16s and under-17s levels.

The former Crooklands Casuals junior will be looking to start between the sticks for group games against Mexico, Chile and Iraq in Kolkata.

Anderson was in the England squad that reached the final of the European Championships last season, which saw them seal a place in India.

The Young Lions travel to India on Thursday for a pre-World Cup training camp in Mumbai, where they will play a warm-up game with New Zealand on Sunday, October 1.

After that, they will transfer to their base for the group stages in Kolkata where they open their World Cup campaign against Chile on Sunday, October 8.

The second game will see them up against Mexico three days later, before their final group match with Iraq on Saturday, October 14.

All three games will be played in the 66,000 capacity Vivekanada Yuba Stadium.
