KIRKBY United can move a step closer to retaining the Furness Premier League title with victory over GSK Ulverston Rangers reserves tomorrow.

The Villagers host Rangers at the Community Centre, knowing three points will keep the pressure on leaders Hawcoat Park reserves in the Riflemans Garage-sponsored top-flight.

Kirkby lie second in the table – two points behind Park, but crucially with four games in hand – so their fate is very much in their own hands.

And the 25-point gap between them and Ulverston in the league suggests a comfortable win for the reigning champions if they apply themselves.

Park will head to struggling Furness Cavaliers reserves knowing they must win to keep their noses in front in what is an exciting title race where only eight points separate the top five teams and plenty of football is still to be played.

Barrow Celtic are very much still in the running and they entertain Croftlands Park in what could be a cracking third-versus-fourth encounter at Newby Terrace.

There is also a massive game at the top of the Premier Tiles Division One, as leaders Hawcoat Park A head to the Lake District to do battle with Coniston.

In the North West Counties League, Holker will hope to bounce back from their agonising 5-4 aggregate defeat to Sandbach over two legs in the First Division Cup semi-final when they host Alsager Town.

Brian Dawson’s side need a few more wins to push themselves into mid-table and fifth-placed Alsager will provide a stern test.

GSK Ulverston Rangers’ attempts at pulling off a Houdini act in the West Lancs League Division One continue as they welcome Wyre Villa to Canal Foot.

Victory will give Brian White’s side confidence that they can pull off mission improbable after seeing their results drastically improve since the former Barrow Wanderers boss took over and injected some fresh blood into their youthful ranks.

West Lancs League Premier Division action sees both local clubs on the road as Crooklands go to Hesketh Bank and Vickerstown are at Lostock St Gerards – with both capable of taking the points against bottom-five opposition if they perform how they can.

Elsewhere, Cartmel can do their chances of winning the Baines Bagguley North Lancashire and District League Premier Division a power of good if they can win at Caton United in a second-versus-third tussle.
