INSTANT Noodles were denied an appearance at Wembley after finishing fifth overall in the final round of the FA People’s Cup in Birmingham.

The five-a-side tournament saw the team from Barrow as one of the six remaining teams to reach this stage from the 3,960 to have entered from across the country.

The winners of the competition would earn the honour of lifting the trophy during half-time of this year’s FA Cup final as well.

Instant Noodles were dealt a blow prior to the final round getting under way when Liam Shields was ruled out due to injury and fell behind in their first match against Scorpionz Blue, with goalkeeper Luke Duncalf making a number of good saves.

A superb turn and finish from Adam Spence got them back on level terms and he then missed two good opportunities, with Scorpionz grabbing a late winner via the toe of Noodles captain Joshua Jones following another good save from Duncalf.

A 3-1 defeat to eventual winners Woolpack United was next, with Jordan Chubb getting the consolation, and they then fell behind to beaten finalists KO5 in what was a must-win game if they were to stand any hope of progressing to the semi-finals.

Once again, Chubb was on target to get them back on level terms, although he then suffered an injury and KO5 grabbed a late winner to leave Noodles relying on results elsewhere to go through. Chubb returned for the match with TP Mazembe and was on target again, as was Jones, to put them into a 2-1 lead before their opponents pulled one back.

But Dylan Wassell’s first goal of the tournament with just seconds remaining secured a 3-2 win, although they did not progress and suffered a 6-3 loss to East Bank in their final match.
